first off...let me introduce myself...

im a proud owner of the mpc1k model...and i've been involved with production since around '96...in short, i have some good knowledge on production...

now onto the main question...since i have some fair knowledge, me and a few other producer's im in contact with have decided to work on a Production Book...one subject with in this book will be on the mpc models...and some basic information and tips on it...what im wondering is, (to anyone this concerns and pertains to), that if i go thru the tips section on this forum and basically use some of the tips from others aswell as other info provided by others for this book...i will gladly provide a link to this site aswell for people to visit...

please leave a reply and some feedback on this idea

(most of the tips and information can be found in the manuals, but some things can be helpful all around which is what im looking for basically, so its not a holy sacred temple of tips that cannot be found else where, but its a good starting ground for me to cover this equipment in short...i just figured it would be polite to ask those who it may concern and shed some light about what my plans are for other's that may not have the vital usage of a computer to visit this site to gain knowledge on there equipment...thanks in advance to anyone who may support this idea)

Anything that I write, either here on the Forums or on stereoroid.com, is not for sale. I assert my copyright over all of it, and I'm entitled to do so under the terms and conditions on this site. (I checked: there is a copyright notice on mpc-samples.com that does not extend to text on mpc-forums.com.)

You will not use any of it in any form where any money changes hands, including books, magazines, etc. Not even "postage" costs.

Just so we're clear on that... 8)

Yep, that's what copyright means - the words.

Heck knows I'm not precious about giving out ideas here, without worrying about what happens next, but if anyone's going to make money off my words, it's me...

Id rather not be quoted or mentioned in a book either. I use this name, albeit sans v2, in other venues. If you'd like to license any of my text, feel free to PM me for appropriate contact information.

You can definately quote me, "I have an idea, let's make sure that this thread stays on the front page of this forum until it is resolved. I do not want Akai to make money off of a faulty product. It was embarrassing for me to go back to Guitar Center twice to return a brand new product. They have not treated me the same since. I feel that this problem is absolutely retarded. They have been aware of it for a while and did not address it in their last OS update... something seems fishy here. You would also think that someone at Akai would be aware of this forum, probably the most comprehensive mpc resource. They are totally ignoring their customers. That is whack. I have been to many other "much smaller" yahoogroups for different instruments that have a representative or representatives from the respective company keeping people informed... the decent thing to do. Akai have been around for a long time and they have gained a good product reputation and a lousy customer service one. We all have the internet now and they can't be pulling the same **** anymore. Make sure that this thread stays at the top. Don't buy their **** until it works. Look at how fired up I am getting over a product I do not own and am not willing to support."

i dont see how you can have so many problems with your 1000 when i have never had 1 problem with mine. And i use just about every little thing in it and still, no freezes, errors, etc.

dont worry then people...the manuals are downloadable...and the simple info i can come up with on my own...just wanted to know if anyone would like to help contribute...

n it's not like i havent seen 98% of the same stuff on other forums/manuals...ect...i just figured it'd be a polite way of going about it...

and as far as all the info i've come across for the mpc1k for the least part is included in the manual...what i planned on doing was making a Simpleton's version to help people understand more fluently rather then technically speaking to people....

anyways...stereoroid...i understand your protectiveness over the information you share...but at the same time...i know atleast of 10 people that have saved your whole site...and share it with others in DC++...and other groups that make profit have also remade such things, maybe not in your case, but it goes around...the net isnt the safest place...thats why i go about things the right way rather then cheat someone out of their ideas...and i do enjoy alot of the information you've shared...so all i can say is, if any information i put into the book, could be derived from knowledge and shared learning tips and skills thru out my production journey, which in some cases could lead to such ideas that may have stemmed from learning from you in some instances...which isnt illegal, you may understand...also, i never planned on doin the old copy & paste, word for word deal...i just planned to gather simplistic ideas and tips, so that people Without computers & internet may benifit aswell...its not in my plans with this creation of the book to rob anyone for their creativity or idea's...it's simply beeing made to help others gain further knowledge...i hope all understand my goal and ideas...

im not hear to debate or get into confrontations...i'd love to involve the ideas of many people to have a well rounded basis for shared knowledge so that every style of producer and ever level of producer can benifit in some range with the book...

"You would also think that someone at Akai would be aware of this forum, probably the most comprehensive mpc resource."

You mean someone from Akai should filter through all the crap posts, mystery bug reports, and artist A vs. artist B stuff to find one or two tidbits of incomplete information? It is rare to see anyone post the complete details of the issue, like OS version, if it was repeatable, steps involved, etc. In addition, it is even less often that a second person confirms the same issue. So it is unlikely that anyone from anywhere would take any issues from this board seriously unless these conditions are met. If you want some good examples of this type of operation, just go to any open source project site and brush up on how people describe bugs. http://sourceforge.net is a good place to check this out.

There are other forums that Akai participates, so it is not like they are disregarding the internet community (which is only a fraction of their customers). These forums tend to be quite mature, less member 'posturing', and more narrow in scope (technical leanings).

For users that are seriously hindered by a problem, they typically call their country's support and speak to a live person for a resolution.

"just wanted to know if anyone would like to help contribute"

I imagine this is going to be a commercial product? Most of us here charge flat rates.

holy moley! so that's where all my bandwidth went! 8)

but no money changed hands, I hope? That's all I'm saying - don't sell the words I write, please.
If you want to pay me to write something, great - I'll do something new, but all the words here and on stereoroid.com are already published under copyright. (I don't ask for money, but that's doesn't make it any less mine.)

I can see how! My first Mpc1k had a bent chasis that was done durring the manufacturing process. I had to put a penny under one leg to make it level. Lots of these defective devices were sold I beleive with Akai fully aware of the problems.

"My first Mpc1k had a bent chasis that was done durring the manufacturing process. "

The chasis is not bent and I would not think it even quailifies as a defect. This has been covered countless times already and the fix was as simple as placing the manual under the low leg and pressing on the opposite corners. All you had to do was call Akai and they would tell you that.

This is really not the topic to be bringing this up and I know I am only clouding this one, but this really needs to be put to rest.

Weather the chassis is bent or the leg was not connected right,
either way, a MPC1000 that does NOT WORK right out of the box
is DEFECTIVE!!!!!!!!! Period. Not to mention all of the other
problems that you Akai Worshipers love to pretend don't exist.

Also I should NOT have to make a long distance call to Akai tech
support about a problem that THEY should have fixed before they
shipped the damn thing!

And as far as you claiming this topic has been covered before
and wanting it to be put to rest is Bull S**t. Those who buy these
defective machines know nothing about this topic before hand,
cause if they did they would not spend thier hard earned money
on these Half-Assed overly priced Defective machines.

Even if a solution is simple its not the customers responcibility
to fix a problem that was caused by the manufacturer.

This topic and other complaints will continue to pop up as long
as Akai keeps making JUNK.
