again...saving.

ok, back to the oh so trivial saving questions.

Now, yesterday I loaded some pgms, added some other sounds to program01, which is there when the mpc boots, and then did some stuff with it.
In the end, I thougght, I might save the stuff, created a new folder, and hit "save entire memory" there . Now one would expect, that this folder can be loaded again to continuoue today, but - surprise - program01 was not considered to be part of "entire memory", everything is gone.

Now. Ive read the manula, and faqs, and stuff out there, but could anyone with patience just explain, what exactly is saved under the different options: sample, pgm, alll samples and pgms, seq, all seq and songs, entire memory. There is some scarce information in the manual about this not saying everything and its not in the "load/save" chapter, its little bits in other chapters.

I find the akai way confusing and misleading, am I supposed to save every single sample, every seq and every program every time to be sure not to loose anything? why is there not a real "save entire memory" function which i hit once to save any settings, seqs and other things i currently use
with one button hit?

Another problem is re-saving, lets say you created a folder for your session and save entire memory there.
now, if you add sequences save "seq and songs" again, the mpc will ask if the old version should be replaced. when saving a program again you have changed, nothing seems to happen - no question - and the new pgm version is sometimes NOT saved.

All I can say is: so far, "Save Entire Memory" has worked for me every time, it does what it says = saves all programs, sequences, songs, samples.
But I don't do it that much, I do a Program save (with samples) more often, because I reuse Programs. And I always give Programs useful names, never leave it as "Program01". (I have no idea if that could be a factor in your case...)

sounds to me like cos you saved the program with the name "program01" - it's overwritten it when you have loaded up because for some godforsaken reason, everytime you trun on the 1k it creates a 'program01' file (highly annoying when it only holds 24 max)

i save all seqs and songs to the root and then save the programs (without samples) to their own seperate folder - all my sample management is done via my PC. Yes, it takes some time, but it's 10000000 times better than having to save everything all the time, which you get on a lot of budget-end samplers.

I second that (to some extent).
I usually save my programmes with their own samples in separate folders (one folder per programme).
I save my sequences in their own folders (one folder per project).
When a song is finished, i save the finished sequence plus the related programmes and the related samples into the project folder that I save to my PC harddrive.

Yes, it seems have to been the "program01" - name, I think program01 was saved as i had done it, and when loading the folder again, there was already the mpc-created empty "program01" one so mine would not load, but i can load it and it asks, if program01 should be replaced. Guess you should give other names, but i was lazy and concentrated on the sound, entering characters is such a pain anyway, and before i switched it of, i just saved the memory.


This also explains some problems with some "sample01"s in different programs i had...

Stereoroid, does it also work fine if you save entire memory to a new folder, then add or change something in pgms and seqs and then later save again "entire memory" to the same folder ?



Still, i wonder why i will not get the "replace..."-dialogue when saving changed programs again in the same folder where they are - like this i am never sure if saving has occured. With "all seqs and songs" it works just fine.

But i am getting used to all that - I even start to like the sample drop-outs-they give a lively feeling, and as i only work with short samples, not loops, its not so bad.

Don't have my MPC here to check, but I think it wipes the directory totally before saving, I'm sure I remember that coming up months ago...
