Anyone bought a CF Card Reader from ShortyEmcee(ebay)??

I bought it over a year ago but have yet to install it.



I have the reader, power adapter and IDE cable .... Am I missing anything else????

Also, I forgot to ask this when I bought it from the guy, but are these drives hot-swappable?? (for those who have bought one from him).

If not, I need someone to point me in the direction of where I can buy a hot-swappable CF reader for an MPC 2000xl

A card with 1GB worth of storage space, why do you need hot-swapping capability? If you need to add a sound, save what you are doing, load the sound and start back where you left off
I feel like people are asking about hot-swap capability because it isn't possible with most IDE card readers. If it's that serious buy a XL MCD , to me it's really not that serious. Out of 10,000 or more samples (1GB), you can only load 32MB at a time, what more do you need? That's 1024mb/32mb = a lot of programs (minimum), so you don't have to have a hot-swappable drive!

On to the next subject.....

Not that I need to explain anything to you, but its about workflow my boy. We all have different types of them. What may work for you and suits YOUR needs will not necessarily fit mine or anyone elses. and for the record, Shutting sh!t down and restarting over and over is not a workflow... it is a WORKAROUND. I do ALOT of bouncing back and forth between the MP and my PC so it would be completely foolish to follow your methodology. But you go right ahead there guy. lol

Right now the only hot-swappable card readers available are the Spyrus MCDISK models. There are still some available on eBay but they are expensive.

And CoolHeff is right - everyone has their own workflow, so if you need hot-swappable, then you need it. The fact that our CF-CARD drives will give you 8GB of storage space on one card makes hot-swapping not that big a deal for most people but some folks still want it. And for those folks, the Spyrus drives are a good choice.

I've been sticking with the zip drive because it is in fact hot swappable, thats the only reason the CF reader has never been installed. What I will probably end up doing is installing this CF reader, saving all data to the 1GB CF card, but also connect a scsi zip drive to meet my hot-swappable needs.

this is the route i've taken..installed a internal IDE cardreader now i'm waiting for my external ZIP drive to safe my programs & songs on.

I couldn't find an ATAPI reader.

I use my external zip to transfer files back & forth.

you know, theyre cheeper than that. you could robably build one for around 50 bucks, and scsiforsamplers has em at 80
