HOW MUCH DO YOU SPEND FOR RECORDS?

How much I spend on digging depends on how bad I want a record... I'll spend up to 60 bucks if I really want it and it's rare, but I almost NEVER do that... usually I spend between 3 dollars and 25 bucks... but I had a couple of people that passed on their entire collection to me for free... they was gonna throw this out cause "records take up too much space"... I was like are you crazy pass them here... still haven't gone thru all of them...

there are no limits for me, i buy al kinds of music classical , orchestra, koto, japanese flute, funk , rock, i go every where to buy records, ive been diggin for 20 years you learn tricks you find methods of shoppin,

sh!t just last week i spent 30 bucks on two classic house tracks i bought on the internet, and yester day i spent 6 bucks on three records from the thrift store,

i got 60 crates of records people give them i buy boxes of them and look throu all of them and give the crappy ones to the record store to sell,

itchyvinyl Seriously, it doesn't matter how much money it costs. It matters what's on the record. Dollar bins are great, but you have to find the RIGHT $1 records.
You could spend $40 bucks on a rare funk record with no good open samples on it (even though it might be great to listen to.)
You could spend $2 dollars on a record that's terrible to listen to, but that has a few great samples on it.

It's all trial and error, no matter what the record cost.
The good thing about the dollar bin is if it's an error, it's only a $1 error

i got it all and i keep finding more and more classics i havent bought a hole alot in the past few years , but watch out cause i' m on the loose again and thats where i'm heading to the records shops, diggin like a dead man trying to digg his way out.

Find obscure places that other cats don't think to look in, alot of times things happen by accident. Dollar bins rock no necessarily for sought after "sample" records. But if you using original sounds not using them b/c someone else did. .50-$12.00
Hit up flea markets, thrift stores, yard sails then of course regular old used record spots. If you find a place with gems. Sit on it and don't disclose this info, unless they familyAlso 45's are mad cheap and often slept on more than 12's.

well, if you want a dope record to listen to, sometimes you have to cough up the money for it...especially if it has been sampled by someone famous...that usually makes things skyrocket to at least $40 (ie colonel bagshot in Shadow's six days). but if you just want to listen...a reissue is usually the way to go, right?
but for sampling, i stick to the cheaper garage sale gems, b/c chances are if someone wants to unload them in bulk for cheap, it hasn't been sampled yet or blown up by a famous digger. who wants to sample bands that have already been gotten to?

you can still find blown up stuff for cheap though if you do the leg work.
i found Giorgio Moroder son of my father lp in some dude's garage and paid $20 for a stack of 30 including that record.

why would u wanna sample sumthin that's already been sampled?

Whatever comes up or has like 3 white dudes and a brother with an afro is golden. Or if the words cosmic and funk appear on the same record. Whatever the cost. I get mad records from people I know, came across some fatback band and meters originals. Get some good ish. I shouldnt be droppin this knowledge here, but goto estate auctions. When someone dies they will auction of there property. Also flea markets, goodwills, salvation armys, garage sales, are also good for free records. I DJ so i buy a lot of hip hop, rock, soul, and whatever looks tight. A good dig usally runs me like $80, dj ish included.

yo, i stick to the dollar bins....i think you gotta get good at pickin the right ones though...as in the "quality" of them, not content, but actually quality of the recording cause some are just shit and all muddy, with dc overload.

The most I have spent on one was around $10. Uusally, I get ones that are 2 or 3 bucks. I check every single section before leaving and look for records of every kind.

the most i ever spent on a single record was like 15 beans... i usually go to my spot in nyc that has anything for 3bucks a pop and craigslist is the ish too i have bought crates there for 40 bucks thats like 80sumttin records, u cant beat that..

I came up on about 500 (new / never played) thru work ( www.dmxmusic.com ) - so I'm pretty busy diggin for records at my house but...

as far a diggin - If I hear something I like on the funk, disco, 80's or 90's stations on www.dmxmusic.com I'll usually just download it - sample it into the MPC re-record it back into the computer - covert to mono - slice it up in Recycle and get on with my life...
