Confused...

I'm thinking about starting to producing hiphop and I heard an mpc would be great for it but I'm so confused, I don't reallt know much about producing hiphop or using a sampler. Do you buy samples or make samples? If you have to buy samples where do you buy it? If you make samples how would you make it? Do you just load all your songs on the mpc harddrive and use it to take parts off a song I like, or would you have to do all that on a computer first then load the samples in the mpc?


I have my eyes on a used mpc, is there anything I should worry about when buying a used mpc, or as long as it turns on its fine?

you can buy or download samples for free. have a look around on here for links or do a search and you'll see htere are a lot out there -- have a listen to them on your computer.
but most prefer to dig for old vinyl records and then sample (which is just another word for recording) into the mpc.
do a search on youtube for 'mpc' and have a look at how people do it.

you can sample into your mpc or into the computer, then transfer the samples with a USB (on the later models, early models don't have USB).

a 1000 or 2500 would probably suit you best. make sure that the pads work.

make sure all the jacks work as well. i had static and dead pads on my first 1k off ebay.
