a complex midi situation

i just moved and i have to reconnect all my equiptment.my problem is i forgot how i had the midi connected with 3 mpc' and a triton.i had the mpc 2500 as the master but now when i try i cant get the other machines to correspond wit the 2500.can anyone explain how to do it or is there a diagram out there for this type of midi configuration? mpc 2500,2000xl,1000 and a triton keyboard

Here's one way you could do it:

triton OUT into 2500 IN.
2500 OUTA into Triton
2500 OUTB into 2000xl
2500 OUTC into 1000

Now your keyboard can be used to lay note patterns into tracks or just play sounds on any of the MPC's, and the 2500 can be used to send start/stop midi time code to all of the machines, controlling them. Make sure the 2000, 1000, and triton are set to sync to incoming MIDI clock, so when you hit play on the 2500, they all start up.

Also make sure that your triton is set up so that data at it's MIDI in doesn't get sent to it's MIDI out otherwise you'll end up with a loop and things will go bad.

i think things went bad! before i read your post i plugged up midi similar to how u said do it and a i hit a pad then the sound just went crazy and wouldnt stop! i had to cut everything off then back on.

Dude, do the smart thing and invest in a 4x4 midi interface or something along those lines and be done with the aggravation.

Majorblood, you had a MIDI loop.. think audio feedback, but with MIDI information. Make sure to turn local off on your Triton if you set it up like I said to avoid this.


Dab, adding more boxes will not make this any easier!! (It's not that complex to begin with)

Well, I mentioned that because there's a ton of benefits and custom routing matrixes that can be made without the patching delima associated with not using one.

With one, for one you do away with the toggling back and for with the local on/off feature. Second, things go like butter dripping off a stack of pancakes when you can pull up custom routing setups to instanly get things going.

I understand that some may not see the reality of what I'm saying because they've never experienced it yet. I've been at this point before, dealing with physically routing all my midi connections, f**king up midi cables & causing breaks in them, thus creating a more confusing scenario. And going from bad to worst wasn't what I had in mind.

What's a small investment worth compared to racking your brains and being limited at what you can do?

Good points Dab for sure.. I have Midi router (KMX) in my setup and love being able to recall setups.

rewiring sucks. hopefully majorBLOOD can get this rig going..
