Can't reset 2500, can't load original OS either...

I bought a 2500 off of someone with JJOS 3.09 loaded on it already. I wanted to start off fresh so I tried a factory reset but all that happens when I hold down the "Erase" key and power back up is it goes to the regular "Erase" menu. It didn't do a factory reset and it turned the auto-load feature back on, which I think is what's supposed to happen.

So then I decided to reload the original OS (yes I know everyone loves JJ better I just need to see for myself). I followed the instructions in the manual (put the bin file in the CF card, hold the "Window" button and power up) but the screen just goes blank. I have read a million posts on here, none that fit my situation, so save the smart ass comments please, just need a bit of help. Thanks guys.

3.09 is the akai OS. just has

1) faster loading
2) a different screen for save load (making it easier to see where your samples are located)
3) easier trim (you can use the wheel the trim as opposed to entering digits)
4) other menial but helpful things

and nothing else really matters to a beginner. trust me when i say, the manual covers 3.09. the manual doesn't cover any of the other operating systems, you are truly wasting your time and efforts, life is short, y'know?
