Hi There people, im new to this site. im sure this has been asked many times. i would like some advice on buying a new mpc. i have been using the 2000xl lately. i love the sound and groove, i know many of the top producers still use the 2000xl. about 2 years ago i got a 4000 but took it back soon after, it was a nice machine but not for me! i like what i see in the 2500. the idea of being able to plug my keyboards strait into the 2500 is great. i use logic on a mac. but i now want to record all my tracks on the mpc. i want to move away from computers. it looks like getting the extra ram with the 2500 would be perfect. im still not sure about these newer akai products tho. perhaps im a little to fussy!!?

has anyone used both these machines, would be great to hear what you have to say?

thanks

i played on a 2500 again yesterday in a shop. i liked it. im finding it hard to make up my mind tho. im back on my mpc 2000xl today loving it!
yesterday i saw some other people on this site talking about the diffrences between these 2 machines.
there was a lot of talk about the cheap sound of the 2500. people suggesting keep the 2000xl.

thanks for your views so far :)

could anyone please tell me more details about the diffrences
in these 2 machines?

the whole cheap sound thing is way overblown in my opinion. The sound difference is VERY SUBTLE. if you can hear it at all.

2500 pros - USB hookup. CF card reader. BIG BIG pros for the 2500. Also JJOS gives you alot more functionality.

2000 pros - Cost. .. uuuh.. .. proven reliable.? (although how long has the 2500 been out - any strings of disastrous failures? Not that I know of.)

so, take your pick. both great machines, both give a very similar workflow.

I have had both machines and prefer the 2500 to the xl. More in the box features updated OS, ability to go JJ if you want. As for the sound, I don't prefer one over the other. Seems you have had a chance on both machines. Did your ear pick up and unique coloration over the other? Try it through headphones with the same sample so you know external gear isn't affecting the sound and you have a consistent sound source. You get out what you put in. Either machine will probably do what you want. If you want somebody to say "buy the 2500 and sell your XL"... Buy the 2500 and sell your xl.

Some pros for the 2500 - more sampling time, more q-links, better screen that you can replace for way less than $300 (if you ever need to), great build quality, built in effects, jj option, better resale, looks cool, usb, cf, cd, HD, outs built in... It comes in black or white... You can post your own image on the startup screen, makes music, keeps you out of trouble, it is my anti-drug...

pro for XL - retro cool, easy to use, you already have one.

Thanks guys, all of you!

thats what i was looking for. the last few comments have been very helpful.

i was in london in another shop today playing on the 2500LE. I took some samples 2.
the sound on it is good. no probs there. the 2000xl does sound a very small bit different but really not much. i agree with revtor. the whole cheap sound thing has been overblown. i will be keeping my 2000xl for sure tho! i think it would be a mistake to let that go.
i remember a friend a while back let me play on his 3000 and there was a nice warmth there. when i have some money to spend again i might just buy one.

anyway im going to go for the 2500!
i like the older black one. the green screen i find to be easier on the eyes.
thanks christfutura for the advice well put mate

does any one know how i get jjos? is that the operating system?

thanks again for ur help

peace

one more not so important pro about the 2000xl though... you can use it as a weapon in a bar fight, where as the 2500 wont be nearly as effective..
