But yeah, the live record feature on the 1000 is a godsend, but I believe its only on JJ and OS1.20(akai) but JJ's is much better. You can use that feature to lay guitars/keys over the beat too. As for what I use right now, an external sampler and a 2000xl, but I owned the 1000 for about 3 years.

hey Tapuno,
what kind of external sampler are you using ? I have been looking around for a stomp box kind of thing with midi capability and can't find much. the Roland RC50 has midi but apparently it doesn't work very well. the Korg KP2 or KP3 look like they would work even though they aren't really made as floor boxes. Mike at Boomerang (probably the best floor sampler out there) suggested a floor midi controller thing while I wait for the folks at Boomerang to add midi to their sampler. Or maybe I should stop buying shit and learn how to actually use my friggin 1000.

I just baught another 1000. The external sampler doesnt have anything but 6 seconds of sample time, and its built into my keyboard. yamaha DJXII. But you can do alot more than what you know with your MPC as far as layering and live record go, maybe consider a loop pedal? I know Boss has one ith a built in sampler/looper, maybe you could MIDI that up to the mpc and get what you want?

dude, I am the uber ultra noobie on this forum, i totally haven't scratched the surface on the mpc 1000, that is for sure. i don't know why I'm so friggin intimated by the thing, you get on you tube and people are all over it ! okay, so I'm learning kinda slow........
anyway, that's what I've been thinking. I have the the Boss RCXL whatever looper pedal. It would be perfect if it had midi going through it. anyway, I'm off work today, after I get done playing Mr. GreenJeans in the greenhouse, I'm gonna fire up the MPC and bang my head on it a bit, figure some shit out.
thanks again

remember, tracks 52-64 are direct record audio tracks in JJos
