Cannot decide

Hello everyone. Greetings from Amsterdam!(Holland).


I have some money coming in within a few months. So i've been studying the MPC5000 lately. I've read the manual, saw the vids and follow the fora.

Currently I'm using padKontrol(sold the MPD32 because of issues). I've ignored Maschine because I wanted a dedicated hardware drummachine, but did study it lately.

I was determined at first, but what makes me doubt to purchase the 5000 is Akai. NI very responsive and concerned with/to it's users, Akai is not. I have no idea what's going to happen with the 5000 or MPC in general and that puts me of. MPC 5000 is not a dud, but it's not the best MPC out there.

I thinking of passing on the 5000, i realy don't know man. Akai's support is poor concerning the MPC. Is there going to be a OS update soon or A MPC 6000? Show some love Akai!!

First of all, forget "Akai". Its Numark who bought Akai couple of years ago, and theyre the ones responsible for all this crap behavior. Original Akai was better :)

I dont think you should get the 5k. Its pretty buggy and has many issues.

if I were you I would get an mpc2500... lots cheaper and very very nice, stable as a rock as well.

Have you tried using Maschine? It works just like a dedicated hardware drum machine, because it is one. It's just that the software lives on a computer which confuses some people. It really does work just like a standalone hardware with all of the workflow benefits of hardware.

well its not a hardware drum machine as anyone without a computer will find out too soon!!!i tried it and it was ejected from my studio in record time.hey maybe i should have kept it longer.but it had a soft feel to it(its all about creativity ultimately so no probs).will suit some people.tonight im triggering a z8 with the mpc4000.clean but raw.and im writing this on a computer.i geuss if you loop the audio out of the puter through a tube ect ect ect,basically make it more hardware it will feel more substantial.i like to get some air in there.ultimately it all ends in a daw,so use what feels right.i did enjoi using the 5k but the new 2.5 with the blue screen makes a lot of sense.whats up with that data wheel tho???

No I haven't, but I know what it's capable of. It's a great hybrid and a good alternative. but you still need a computer and I want to get away from the computer as much as possible. The Maschine just doesn't justify enough me leaving my controller and i.e Ableton for it.

Thanks! I'm leaning towards the 5000. I'm just afraid that after I purchase it( somewhere in May) they announce a new MPC better then the 5000. Just want to now what's in the pipeline this year Akai(read Numark)!

I would recommend looking at the Roland Mv8800 or the Mv8000 before you decide. I think that the Roland machine has more redeeming qualities than the MPC 5000, these features are suitable to my tastes and are not applicable to all. Do extensive research, you will be spending exorbitant money and it's best you find the most viable outlet.

MV8800 is no option. My mind is set to the MPC. Couple of reasons; I'm familiar with the OG MPC's and the MV is way too expensive for me. I do love the tv out, cd-drive, VGA built in color display, VGA out, max. 512Mb vst plugin control, better support? (maybe i should get a MV;)). Nah, but if i would pick it anytime over a Maschine.

If you're set on an MPC with illustrious features I would recommend considering the 4000. It seems to be very popular with many users on the forum. It certainly doesn't have the same animosity the 5000 generates.
