I just changed them and that's it. I didn't do the bias adjustment! My levels are equal end I encounter no problem at all. As I said in the video, compared to the stock tubes I find those JJ ones more brilliant in the highs. When adding a fair amount of tube gain the stock tubes (i.e. tubes by Electro Harmonix) made the Tribes sound muffled. But again it's a matter of taste. Some people use Marshall tubes for example. IMHO the ones by JJ have the best price quality ratio. And honestly, the tube circuit in the Tribes is constructed in such a way that the tubes can only be considered as a nice gimmick, but are not a main component in the audio path. So don't waste too much time and money on this topic!

Thanks! But I only had two MPC500s! One to beat up on and one that was "babied" for live sets. I finally got sick of the cryptic save procedures and other bullshit to avoid crashes and lost data. Sold 'em for peanuts on Ebay and didn't regret it, not even for a second. Hell, my MacMini has been way more stable than the MPC500. I refuse to buy another MPC until Akai decides to fix the bigs (& give them features fit for the 21st century).

I know. I previously owned an MPC1000 before the 500s and that worked just fine (after 2.0) but the 500 was whack. I felt burned after blowing so much cash on two machines that had such little resale value. I waisted almost two years trying to work with the 500 and prayed it would receive critical upgrades, but I got tired of waiting. Lost a lot of money when I sold them off. I should never have given Akai another sale but I do have to give them props for the APC40 and LPD8. If they would only integrate their resources with Ableton to make something like NI's Maschine that would sync Ableton sets and operate in a "stand-alone" mode.

It's really a damn shame that Akai was bought out. Look at their older products. Not just the MPC's, but also the rack samplers. I just looked at a few of the S5000/6000's and those things are built like tanks. They just ooz quality. I stilll would like to cop one of those one day. They sell cheap as hell for what they are too. New era my friends...

sure, but they went bankrupt, so there wouldn't have been any new products at all if they hadn't been bought by numark.

How were you saving? I just save 'all programs & sounds', and 'all sequences & songs' within a folder and have never had a problem. For loading I just load the whole folder. Never had a crash either. I think the MPC500's are brilliant and I'm still learning new tricks.
