Repair issue... help a suffering MPC2000XL freak

Hi,

I had a problem with the jog wheel and a few sticky buttons so I managed to get hold of a new PCB board. I'm not particuarly technical but I installed 32MB memory expansion a few years ago with now problems so I thought I'd give it a go.

I've also taken the opportunity to install a 250MB ZIP drive. It was a difficult task to untake in reality but I was very careful with the circuit board despite having a bit of trouble getting the pin connectors out and I managed to mount the PCB and the ZIP drive. I remounted the unit and switched it on. It powers up the LCD backlight comes on and the LCD lights too but nothing else.

Does anyone know what the problem is? Should I try the whole process over. If that fails should I remount the old PCB to see if that's the problem? Help!!! This really sucks.

I would undo the last work on it and check if it works then. So in your case unistall the zip drive and check all the connections of the PCB. Then turn on the MPC. If it doesnt work, you know that the problem is the PCB.

One thing, I bought the PCB board from Michael Minehead at mpcstuff.com and he told me he did checks on it and sorted out one or two issues for example, he replaced the slider switch.

Do have to reseat all the connections or just the ones I unseated?

I'm afraid to say checking my work, connecting, reconnecting all the connectors etc. didn't work. The situation is the same. I have my old PCB board that still functions ok, the jog wheel's screwed but... Do you think it would be a good idea to try that first before ditching the new one? One interesting note - the ZIP disk doesn't seem to be receiving any power. Should an LED come on for the drive?

HEY!!! I FIXED IT!!! THAT PUTS AN END TO ONE OF THE WORST WEEKENDS I'VE EVER HAD!!! I'D RATHER NOT SAY THIS BUT I CONNECTED THE SCSI CABLE FOR THE INTERNAL ZIP DRIVE THE WRONG WAY ROUND. SO, YOU KNOW WHAT TO DO IF YOU'RE EXPERIENCING A SIMILAR PROBLEM. PROPS TO LAMPDOG FOR POINTING THIS OUT! YOU ARE A GENIUS! THIS FORUM IS THE LICK!
