Tracking Out MPC into DAW - Timing

Hi,

I'm an MPC3000 user but this question applies to any MPC user I guess. As I don't own a large mixer and I'm out of inputs on my interface, I'm using the main outs on the MPC to track out all the channels of a beat into my DAW (Digital Performer 7). I'm sure a lot of you do the same. Now, what I want is to do this while keeping the 3K's "magic" timing. This isn't as simple as it sounds. DP7 doesn't have a record on audio function, and when I slave the DAW to the MPC I notice that the channels never start recording exactly at the same spot. What I do is make a dummy pattern with a single sound and set it to play in the beginning of the song. That way I can later align the channels in the DAW according to this sound. This is far from ideal, and I was wondering how are you guys working?

I agree with Lamp too, but I slave my mpc to mtc. For some reason it works better for me this way because it syncs extremely well, no problems.

DAW's are too far advanced in keeping stable timing these days imo, because at one point this use to be an issue.

But it's still being centered as the culprit to a lot of folks' problems, not realising it's more to do with hardware & software (drivers) incompatibilities most if not all of the time.

30fps through the use of mtc is what I base my sync options on, just thought I'd throw that out there.

So synching the MPC to the DAW works better eh? This actually makes a lot of sense to me, I'll give it a go next time around.

Either way is fine by me. I'll pick whichever is more precise.
