NI MASCHINE - constantly upgrading. (Ver. 1.6)

Native Instruments is making progress is what I would say. Most of these features (or variations of) are already available on MPCs. I am hoping that NI keeps expanding this product so that it is on par with the features in Battery and/or Kontakt. Eventually I would like to see them update the hardware to something more rugged like an MPC. This is the type of product I would like to see Akai make.

Akai has missed the boat because they never saw it coming. They've just been riding on the coat-tail of MPC's success based on Roger Linn's original design from the last millennium. NI is a much more forward-thinking company. I do not regret selling my MPC2000, MPC1000 w/ JJOS, and MPC5000 not one bit. Maschine truly is a MPC killer.

i ll keep my mpc. i ve been seen too much controllers around... but i ll watch it, maybe akai will be inspired, who knows??

I too got Maschine and was blown away. I've used MPC's for about 10 years (2000 XL, 1000, an breifly a 500) and know my way about them well, but when I tried Maschine it kinda made the MPC kind of clunky I guess is the way to put it.

I've had it for about 3 months now and one by one I have let my MPC's go - holding onto the XL for old times sake - only to sell it about two weeks ago.

The way Maschine works just fell into place straight out of the box really - its really slick the way the whole package works, not only standalone, but also with other plug ins and hardware too - I'm letting it control most of my stuff, both Hard and Soft. It kind of bridges the gap between hard and software in a really sleek way - workflow has improved, and made everything 'talk' to each other in one great package.

Just so you know, it's a very big but common mistake to think of it as a "controller". No midi controller Akai or anyone else ever makes will come close to it. You'd be surprised once you actually take a closer look at Maschine and see what it actually is.

ok, i didn t have the occasion to test it yet, i have to, maybe the concept is good for studio use, but live on stage?,
i don t want to depend on a pc, for having my samples played, and we often saw that "real" hardware sounds way
better in a club!

There's still a lot of heads who have not woken up to what Maschine is. I think many of them will appreciate getting feedback from those who have used both MPCs and Maschine and learning why many are calling Maschine a true MPC killer.

the only smart move numarkai made IMO is the APC. they knew they couldn't make something like ableton... ableton is one of the best written pieces of audio software to be coded in a long time and they definitely made a good partner in crime with that move... too bad the apc is as expensive as it is.

I personally haven't gotten the hang of ableton live, but it is very effective. I know a guy who tours all of canada and a lot of other places using ableton and some controllers.. he uses it to DJ and flip beats live... he does dubstep and stuff like that. the dude makes a good show. he rocks a couple of controllers, he has a trigger finger kind of pad controller just to navigate menues and toss tracks into the cells and stop and start songs. then he uses a fader control surface to mix the tracks.

I never saw anyone use pads like that but it works awesome. he gets his laptop and controllers set up and he's spinning in less than 1 minute including the time the computer needs to boot. he takes up maybe 2 feet by 1 foot of room on the table.



on topic though, man.. native instruments always was a great company. they make very good sounding pluggins and it seems like they are making moves with this maschine. I was looking at it from the beginning and now it seems like it is definately going to be a must have in my arsenal.

I use Live too but I have Launchpad next to my Maschine instead because Maschine actually is a better Live controller if you already have Launchpad. I didn't like that APC was as expensive as it is either, and not to mention not being usb-powered and needing a power adapter. I also felt that it's way too bulky than necessary like MPDs. Anyway, there's already some excellent Live templates for Maschine. The fact that you can easily make a custom template and having the dual LCD displays make all the difference.

Maschine + Launchpad = SICK!!!
