Reviews and questions about the entry-level MPC500

Hello friends,

I´m a beatmaker from Brasil. I´ve bought a MPC 500 three weeks ago, and I´m studying the manual and the hardware really hard. However, today when I was sampling something really odd started to happen: randomly, when I tap a pad my MPC 500 is rebooting.

No crash message: just rebooting when I tap a pad. Really weird. I thought it could be an OS bug, so I updated the OS no the newer version available on the Akai Pro site. However, after updating, the problem is still present on my unit.

I really can´t explain it, because nothing happened to the MPC.

Someone have an idea? I´m using the native 16 MB RAM, but I´ve ordered last week the 128 RAM update on eBay. Can it be a RAM problem or a problem with the CF Card?

I´m really sad. The MPCs are very, very, very expensive in Brasil. It was so hard to buy one! I really wanted to fix up this problem.

Thanks a lot!

are you running off the battery? if so they could be loose, or there could be a short in ur power chord, try wiggling it around a bit and see if it reboots again,, one time i got a short in my power chord and this happened

Hello inflict3!

Thanks for the help, man.

I´m running my MPC on the power. However, I tried to run it on the battery to see if the problem happened again and it happened.

I´ve just changed the CF card (the card I was using was an old digital camera card, 256 MBs) to the original Akai CF Card, and tapped the MPC for some minutes. The problem didn´t happened yet.

I´m backing up the samples from the CF card I was using, and will format it to see what happens.
