is there a proper way to turn off the mpc 4000?

dumb question.. is there a proper way to turn off the mpc 4000??? or can i hit the off switch at any time without causing any damage?

This felt really weird when I got the 4k. I couldnt believe this was the "proper" way to turn the machine off.

I'm not familiar with other mpcs, is this the same on all of them?

on the other hand my hd-recorder is a pain in the azz when it comes to shutting down. you need to push like 3 buttons (some of them multiple times) to get to the submenu and the "you can now safely turn off the recorder" message.

fact is, my mp is from 2003/04 and I never had any problems with it. this machine is like a f'ing truck. (lol, I just remembered the ad I learnd to hate during my last vaccation in the states: "Its not just a truck, it's the ford F50!" BAAM

If you press the button, you'll hear that it's a good few seconds before the drives spin down fully and the audio dies: I suspect there's some kinda shut-down routine kicks in when you press the power button. But I am just guessing. There is certainly no other way to turn it off!

I'm used to returning to main menu when I'm turning it off. I don't think you can cause any damage after turning it off 'cus it always drop memory.

Only thing you need to worry is not turning it off when saving

Im always a little paranoid about losing the hard drive, so for extra precaution, I make sure Ive set it to no spin before I power down. Id be so pissed if I lost all that work.

Just as a rule of thumb I never power down any piece of gear thats accessing a HD (saving, loading, or in the screen to do so)

I practice turning off my monitors 1st I was told in school turn monitors off 1st to prevent damaging them I would think this is a good rule to follow {Who wants to hear a popping noise all the time when powering of}f!

Like I said, it has nothing to do with the original post. His inquiry was about the 4k (hence the reason it is in the 4K technical thread and not studio environments) and ensuing damage from powering down incorrectly. Not the the pop of monitors. And based on your second useless post I can see that you are a novice user, either to production, reading or just life in general. Please save yourself the stress of making lame attempts to get into a pissing match with me because you will just get pissed on and leave pissed off.....
