MPC 2500 SE is a joke.

I just want to weigh-in on the 2500 SE

and say what a joke I think it is. This is what music is about now. A music hardware manufacturer, instead of coming out with new gear, changes its color, and installs the RAM upgrade we all install anyways for under 20 bucks, and we're supposed to be so stupid that we go, "oooh boy! a new MPC! DOPE! Lemme get out my wallet".

Style is nice, but it comes second to functionality, always. Is the color of the MPC going to make my music sound any better? No. It really doesn't matter much at all. When you're in the zone using the tool you're not supposed to even notice the tool. It's supposed to just disappear and become like your hand, like it grew into your flesh.

These companies are out of ideas. They keep re-releasing the same old products. If they were going to make a 2500SE, why didn't they do something that matters along with the new paintjob? Something we can't easily do ourselves, like upgrade the CPU or make it work with gigabytes of RAM, or something. This is just a sad joke.

This is seriously true, I don't understand how they were able to fit 512 mb of ram on the 4000, but took 2 steps back and outfitted the 2500/1000 with 128 mb, its stupid. Although I do like the color scheme.

after the massive fail with the 5000, I doubt they are going to develop a new mpc


it would be like if 6 years after automobiles became the standard way to travel, if the ford guy made marketed and released new horse/ buggies.


from a businessman's point of view in todays market, a new mpc is not a wise business decision/ investment.


To make an mpc have all the features that people are use to/want out of their daw/computer you would be looking at a open labs type of price point, and really many people are using the computer they already own and cracked software


it would be a bad investment, kinda like opening a new commercial recording studio in today's home recording crazed environment.


a re-vamped look to make an old product seem new to people that may "discover" it for first time is way cheaper for Akai than the r&d of a new fail.

midi controllers are their bread & butter now

it's just business all about the bottom line

I am wondering if Numark/Akai will return to the black design after a while or if they will come up with a completely new mpc after this...

I think 2500 is nearly a perfect machine for sample based hiphop, but then again that SE is ugly as hell. They should just release the black ones with blue screen.

What would be nice is a limited re-release of the MPC-60/3000/ with the 2500 guts, but the same look of the classic machines. I may not need anything like that, but I would SERIOUSLY consider buying one! Maybe add a different operating system that can export tracks as .WAV files!
Ok, I woke up..no point in dreaming about shizz that won't come true! haha!

I actually wrote a long post saying exactly the same things as you about the "special edition"; that it should possibly have an upgraded CPU, more possible RAM space, upgraded DAC, etc, etc and being a different damn colour is a complete JOKE. The technology in the 2500 was already way behind the times when it was originally released (no USB 2, no 24 bit, measly RAM, slow processor, 96ppqn... i mean.. I own a 2500 and love it but this technology should have been in it)! They went backwards in technology from the 4000 ffs. I binned the post cos I wasn't feelin like puttin out a slightly negative post at the time... So yeah, I agree 100% with u!

didn't akai also steal the entire SE style [the colors they used, the blue screen, etc] from someone's modified mpc2500 posted on this forum?? i remember hearing something like that...
