trying to play synth from my mpc need some help

I want to assign midi output from my MPC2500 to a hardware synth. when I play the pads the notes are not chromatic. I have changed the note value but the note still plays the same and there is an asteric next to the number. My goal is to be able to play whatever notes I want to assign in a padbank. Also can I loop without holding down the pad? Say if I wanted to trigger a perc loop just by hitting the pad, or from a Drumkat. thank you for any advice.

That is telling you that there is another pad assigned to that MIDI note. Go through EVERY pad and change the MIDI note of each. When I would do this, I would start with Pad 1 on Bank A setting it to 36, which is C1 and work my way up through the pads.

Also, I have not found a way to keep this layout when creating a new program; you'll have to reassign them all over again. For some reason I think I was able to do that on my 2000XL, but maybe I'm wrong.
