2000xl Panning

Right ive used most mpcs and i recently picked up a 2000xl. its probably the favourite of the mpcs ive used, but i was wondering if you lot could answer me a question?
right i have a 10 second sample and i want to pan it left to right. however i can get the mixer to record pan but what happens is it pans left when i start the sample and doesnt "move". Now i know that i can do it on 1k but i don't know if its possible on the 2kxl

Forgive me if im worng but ive gone over that several times and cant find a conclusion to my problem! Anyone else?

On the 2k and 2xl the sample only plays in the position it was last panned to until triggered again... even when you use mix automation. Here's the work around. Layer two of the same sample, one panned hard left, the other hard right. Set a long attack on one and a long decay on the other. When hit together you have a motion effect.
