Reviews and questions about the entry-level MPC500

Hi!

Ive searched thoroughly and not found any posts that relate to my problem, or at least none with a sollution!

I bought a 500 cheap on ebay, it was advertised as faulty but i thought id have a look.

Heres the problem

The unit had the akai 128mb ram expansion, when you turn it on it does the SODIMM test, gets to 90% on pass 2 and then says memory problem, check the memory.

Ive loaded the latest OS.

Im toying with the idea of buying new ram or is it just screwed?

Cheers

FIXED.

Dude you got jacked. If it said faulty why did you buy it.... seriously WHAT THE FUDGE were you thinking? Man I feel embarassed just reading that ish, so I'ma try and help you out. Dang I hope you only spent like $20.

Don't get new RAM until you make the unit work on it's own. try this (without the expansion ram in):

Initialize To Factory Default
You can re-initialize the Factory Preset
settings using the following procedure.

1. Turn the MPC500 on while holding the [ERASE / UNDO] button.

2. Release the [ERASE / UNDO] button after the display shows [MPC500 (##MB installed)].

If it still doesn't work after that your pretty much fkukd. Next time spend the extra to get something that you know works.

If it's not a bad stick of ram, it could be one of the pins on the memory connector. Try cleaning the connector with rubbing alcohol but if that doesn't work the connector may need to be replaced.

The replacement part isn't hard to find, but you need a hot air soldering method and a steady hand to remove the old connector and put the new one on.

It's not a beginner's project.
