RAM error

i have the memory check failure on startup now so i tried the cleaning and resetting methods but had no luck.it then does a loop on startup if i remove the memory.should it actually boot?oh and i reinstalled the os.in the meantime i have ordered new memory to see if that works.many thanks in advance.

was the RAM you installed the exact proper specification?

i don't know why your mpc isn't starting up properly now that you've taken out the RAM (I presume that's what you're saying - that you've removed the RAM chip from underneath your mpc near the batteries... not just taken out the CF card from the front).

if your mpc is new from the local shop, take it back and show them.

no offence to swainclubber but

i don't understand why this is a big problem for people... i'm a tech retard and even I understood the idea that the RAM had to be an exact specification in order for it to work. if people were really cautious they could always spend the extra $$ and buy akai RAM*. i watched a youtube clip of a guy showing how to install it and then did it myself. the whole process took about 30 seconds.

if the mpc is bought new from a store, take it back to them and ask them to help! most stores are very happy to help with after-sales service, especially for something quick and simple like this.

if the mpc was bought off ebay or craigslist or whatever, then people should know about the risks involved and deal with it.


*i'm not suggesting this is neccessary, i'm just saying that if you're really worried about your "investment" why risk it with off-label RAM?

yeah near manchester uk

new ram didnt work, so it isnt that.the RAM connector thing all looks fine.is there any way to put no OS on the memory card whilst it is still in this state?as i said it still doesnt boot up with no RAM installed.it just shows mpc500 startup all the time

I'm having a similar problem, where it says it is doing a "SODIMM test 64M" (I'm guessing the 64M stands for 64MB, even though it is 128MB of ram...)

It says pass 1: [counts from 0% to 100%], thn does the same for pass 2 and pass 3, but on pass 4 it gets to 50%, some numbers flash up on the screen to quickly to read, and then it says "Memory Problem, Check the memory". Anyone else experienced this/any help?

This I can answer.

If your buying "3rd Party" RAM you need to buy 256MB. It only reads one side of the unit so you need 128mb per side. If your using AKAI 128mb this should not be an issue. This is the reason its only reading 64mb.

Try resetting your MPC to factory default and see what happens. If your having problems still I suggest taking it back to where you bought it.

Hi, Im a new MPC 500 user (for a week) and I bought it with standard 16 mb ram (it was barely used like new and Ive updated the OS to 1.31 (it was 1.13) when i first bought). Ive read most of the ram topics here and just bought an old notebook ram Infineon 256 MB 133MHZ CL3 Sodimm 8 chips 32Mx64bit (Which surely works and passed the MPC's own 4 ram test at start-up) but after that test is over (or whenever I turn it on) it gives "Cpu addr" error and it freezes ( once I got "inv. gen inst." error but only once).

When I reboot it with the Infineon ram MPC shows 128 MB and after it gives "Cpu addr" error and freezes, sometimes it works for 10 seconds loads the samples-songs etc. and then gives "Cpu addr" error, and it still works perfect with standard 16 mb ram (I installed and removed the 3rd party ram more than 10 times but I only get the same error).. Do I have to try it with another ram or is there problem with my MPC's motherboard? Thanks for reading..

This forum is dead i think .. But i still wanna share what ive discovered today. I went to 3 different 2nd hand notebook stores (with my MPC 500) and tried more than 20 different SD rams (100 mhz to 133 mhz, Hyundai, IBM, Toshiba, Hynix, Kingston, etc. 256-128 even 64 mb rams too) most of the rams does not work with Mpc 500 (OS 1.31) but I could find 3 working rams (IBM, Kingston and Infineon) but only Infineon was 256 Mb and 133 Mhz so I picked that one ( but the identical 2nd Infineon came out from the same laptop did not work which is very interesting).

After you installed a ram and turn the MPC on, if the "Ram test" starts on its own, probably that ram aint gonna work and the ram test will fail in the 3rd or 4th pass. If it starts normally (like standard 16 mb ram) and says 128 mb (64mb or whatever), installs the songs and plays them (without fail, because with the Kingston 256 133mhz ram it was turning on that way but the screen was freezing after a few minutes) that will work flawlessly. Btw the first Infineon ram i bought is working on laptops though does not work in my mpc 500, here is a picture of the 2nd Infineon ram I bought today (the working one).



Ps: The first Infineon (256 MB 133MHZ CL3 Sodimm 8 chips 32Mx64bit) i bought did not work, besides the working one's identical one did not work either so I can say if a 3rd party ram does not work with your MPC you should try different rams without thinking there may be a problem with your MPC's motherboard, and do not spend more than 20 $ for a 3rd party ram, because even if the technical datas match no1 can guarantee its gonna work.
