Record midi track from MPC 2000xl to Midi track on cubase 4

Hi there. I hope you can help me on this topic, I already have an headache.
I'm recording midi tracks on mpc 2000xl using a Midi keyboad to activate VST plug ins in Cubase 4.

I end up with my sequence as I want it (drum tracks and midi track with VST), now I want to record the midi track from the MPC to a midi track on Cubase 4 but I cant get the notes to folow project tempo. I play my sequence and I can monitor it on cubase 4 but when I try to record the midi info on that cubase midi track the notes just dont "stay" in the correct time. It is not latancy or delay or someting like that, the notes are recorded in only "on second, frame..." how ever you wanna call it.
Can you help out? I hope I was clear, otherwise I will try to explain again if you can help me...

read up on midi dump

also, set your mpc to be the slave, and make sure you are locked. then record ready a midi track and press record on the cubase.

also, make sure mp tempo matches cubase tempo.

Track out your audio without midi from the mpc to cubase.

play the midi vst instruments in cubase.

You tried slaving the mpc to midi time code? I don't know how you have things setup for sync, but if not, def take care of this first.

Plus what's your master tempo set at on cubase anyway?

Now I have my sequence recorded on MPC with drum tracks and Midi tracks (as I said the Midi tracks activate VST on Cubase that I use as track recorder)

I can have my MPC as slave with Time code and the Cubase as Master, this I agree, but when you say "locked" what do you mean?
Can't I record my midi sequence on MPC without being synced with cubase and then afterwards when I decide to "output" my tracks I sync things up and record the midi track on Cubase? this is what I want to do... During production I dont need to have any kind of sync with cubase, right? Only when I need to record into it.

I could sync the MPC (slave) with Cubase (master) and record the MIDI tracks directly to the cubase but this is what I want to avoid, I want to produce on the MPC and then "Re-Produce" in cubase and mix.

Well, I will try this, as soon as I get home, but I already tried the following:
- Record MIDI track (VST) on MPC
- Sync MPC as slave with Cubase as master
MPC configuration: Time code
Cubase configuration: On transpose Project sync setup I also have time code and chose my MIDI out (edirol fa101).

With this Im able to solo (e.g. kick track) press record on Cubase and have the MPC played, and I do this for every track with no problems.
When I create a MIDI track on Cubase, I arm The input will be my midi in (ediroal FA101 midi in) and the output I chose the corresponding VST.

I do solo in my midi track on MPC and should be able to press record on Cubase and get the track played in MPC (and this I can do and I can listen to the VST being played)

But when I look in my midi track in cubase (the one that I just recorded) it has no notes accross time, all notes are at the begining of the MIDI "region".

I will try to check the TEMPO
Desactivate the quantize autocorrect in Cubase.

Any more ideas?

Is your grid squenched real tight or something? There's sliders at the bottom of the window that adjusts the display of the grid.

I think the slider you want is to the far left. If you move it from one side it tightens up the grid, move it to the opposite side, it stretches the grid along with the notes/fonts so that everything is highly visible.

Hei! Thanks you all. I figured it out. It was realy stupid. I had to "disconect" the USB midi in of the keyboard and leave only active the MIDI IN of the edirol 101.

Now next challenge is to figure how to control various VSTs individually in each MPC track and cubase, i mean, imagine 2 midi tracks on the mpc and 2 midi tracks on cubase with each one with one vst and record on mpc each vst and it plays each one it's one mellody. I will look up in the forum but if you have ideas... I figure it will be easy no? I'm just getting in this way of working, I was sampling every thing...

Well, I found no answer. I sow more PPl asking the same thing but no answers. Do you have any ideia?

- MPC:
First midi track - Defined Out as 1A (when I do open window on the S of the track we can define the out of each midi track, correct?)
Second midi track - Defined Out as 2A (As I did for the first one)

- CUBASE:
Here is my problem. On my midi tracks I only have one way of chosing the input: MIDI IN, in this case EDIROL FA101 MIDI IN - How do I define the channel? Otherwise for cubase it is always the same input, wheter it comes from MPC MIDI track 1 or 2.

What I'm I missing, is it possible to do what I want?

I wish I could help you more my friend, but it may not be as hard as you think it is. Have you checked out how to do this on the Steinberg Cubase forums yet?

I'm doing it right now. But since I'm at work I take more time. But I read some ideas and I will try out when arrive home. I need to start doing this ASAP since I listened to new Marco Polo and Ruste Juxx... Blazing beats.
