Sample Packs?

I have the MPC 1000 and I was wondering if anyone out there has purchased "Sample Packs." I heard that there is supposedly a Sample Pack that has the same drum samples that Dr Dre uses. Is this true? I mainly work with Hip Hop and rap and was wondering if anyone could recommend any specific sample Packs.. Thanx

yeah, man... matter of fact, dre buys ALL his samples here... u better get some before he buys them all up!

I'm not looking for JUST Dr Dre samples. I'm looking for professional samples for drums that people (here) recommend.

Most people will tell u to go out and buy some records and sample the drums off of that. If u really want to buy samples buy the packs that are advertised on this forum.

The ones sold here are pretty solid. They are a good starting point, but nothing beats drums you sample off vinyl. Also, think layers.

Usually, those "big name" sample packs are some one's feeble attempt at re-creating someone's sound. They don't actually have anything to do with "Dre," or whoever.

However, Kanye openly admitted to physically stealing the drums outta eminem's MPC. So if Kanye sold an "eminem" kit, lol nevermind.

I bought samples once. Once. I bought the Akai vintage drum machines sample pack thinking it might have programs set up using multiple velocities of the same samples. They could have incorporated a few of the older machine emulations using the q-links... Nothing like that. Just some genaric samples of older drum machines. Some of the exact samples I already had. Do yourself a favor and take an entire day just searching the net and download free WAV files. If you keep your eye on this forum, people will often post samples of their own, or even packs that they bought at some point. (Look at other forums as well) There are free samples all over the place if you look for them. A lot of the time when people sell packs they offer free samples. These free samples are some of the best in the kit, as they want to impress you so you buy the whole thing.
You can build a large sample collection this way. Then you just pick your favorites, and make your own programs.
A few places to start would be a place called the freesound page. Also there is a Roland fan page for the SP series. Just google SP forums. That's onother thing. Anything that uses WAV files is fair game. I've downloaded quite a few large sample packs from the SP forum. Eventually, you probably wont end up using many of them as you start sampling yourself, but they're always a good place to start. Good luck, and let me know what you find. This was when this sample pack was just released, so there weren't any samples yet. At least none that I saw. (It was also a cheaper intro price) I was prepared for it anyways. I figured if there was nothing special about them, at least I'd have all these old school drum machine samples in one place. With a bunch that I never knew about. There's actually nothing wrong with them, I'm just saying that it's nothing I couldn't have gotten for free with just a little bit of searching.

you never heard off J Dilla? Google him, or even check out some of his beats on youtube. Trailblazer right there.

I'm glad I saw your post about I bought the Akai vintage drum machines sample pack.
I was just getting ready to purches those samples. I called akai and the guy said "they were all that".
