Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

Ok, Just downloaded the MPC editor v3. I am working with a 2000xl and recycle 2.1. Can someone give me a explanation on how I would go about taking my slices from recycle and put them in the mpc editor and then map to my MPC. I more than likely would rather use my midi keyboad vs the mpc pads to trigger the slices. Can you give a step by step explanation such as how to export the files in recycle. I keep seeing that the slices need to be expoted as akp files in order to use them with the MPC EDITOR but why not just export the slices as wav files and then save them to disk? And if you did do it that way would there be any need for the MPC EDITOR?

save as an akp in recycle, with the associated midi file, then import the akp into mpc editor, and save the pgm in the directory with your samples.

so you will have in 1 folder your:

samples, midi file and pgm file.

enjoy

Just remember, if you save more than 64 chops in recycle's akp file, mpc editor may have problem with loading it.
Well, at least I made it like that and mpc editor couldn't load, untill I limited number of chops.

I dug up this old topic just because the subject line fit and I didn't want to create a new topic. I already sent an email to the MPC Editor support, but since I've got some free time coming up I'd like to get this sorted out ASAP.

I recently reinstalled WinXP and whenever I import an .akp from Recycle MPC Editor renames the files to something like 0013F97A.WAV (the original file name being "RANITIx 001.wav"). This is obviously very annoying because life is a lot easier when you have "808kick" and "808snr" and not "0008F4A6" and "0008F4A7" - anyone come across this kind of problem before? Thanks!

it's best to keep files and/or samples renamed using the 8.3 rule... 8 character file name+3 digit file extension (.snd, .wav).

Yeah, I'm fully aware of that. The wave files Recycle imports with the .akp files have a certain number of characters. If you try to rename those waves, the .akp file will no longer be recognized. But that's not the point. Because MPC Editor renames the files anyway. My problem is WHAT it renames these files to-- a code of some sort, which completely ignores the original file names and consequently makes my life more difficult.

I was able to determine the cause of this, but not find a fix, yet. The odd characters are from misinterpreted UTF encoding. Never seem this before. Looks like a non-UTF-8 encoded system.

Yeah, thanks so much man.. I tried asking around on the web, and judging from the response (or lack thereof), it's not an easy fix. I definitely think it's related to me running XP on a Mac system. Please keep me posted.
