MPC2000xl best card reader

Hi there.

I need to put a card reader on my 2000xl and i was wondering if you guys can give me some useful tips.

Is there one card reader that i can insert in and out the SD card, without having problems? Whats the card reader name and where can i buy him. I'm from Europe.

We have been selling card reader drives since 2005 and we have not found a card reader drive that will successfully allow you to use SD cards. The only reliable media types that works for samplers are Compact Flash cards. SD cards usually start out okay but then the card goes bad or develops corrupted files or, in one case, would just show up completely empty after a few days use.

Nice tip, so SD cards suck, and CF rule. Plus the card reader reads up to 16gb?

EDIT: And what about putting a Hard Drive on the 2000XL. What you guys think ?

The only hard drive you should consider putting inside your MPC is a 2.5" notebook hard drive and that will require an IDE-to-SCSI converter board. Why do that when we sell an SSD with capacities up to 16GB and installs easily inside your MPC2000 Classic or MPC2000XL? You can see those here:

The SSD takes about 30 minutes to install and requires no mods to your MPC. Just plug it in
and go. You can keep your floppy drive and still have up to 16GB of fast silent internal storage.

That USB card reader would work fine, but then any USB card reader that works with Windows will work fine. Cause you'll be running it on a Windows machine.

Let me ask, those sold at mpcstuff (for 2000xl) are Compact Flash compatible ?

The card readers that are IDE, like the one zbigi listed and the one sold by MPCStuff, are not hot-swappable and can only use 1GB maximum on any size CF card. Our CF-CARD card reader drive is SCSI and can use up to 16GB on a compact flash card with both the MPC2000 Classic and the MPC2000XL. I believe ours is cheaper than the one sold by MPCStuff but not the one you have listed, zbigi.

I have an ide cf reader that cost me around 14 bucks back in 06 when i wasn't even aware of the whole hot swap thing which mine has and the link i posted i got from the individual who recomended the one i got so i do not know first hand about its hot swap status this one was for someone from a polish forum.

So does anyone know any readers that are confirmed as hot swap readers?
Like i mentioned this is for someone i know as i already have one but i'm too lazy to trace it and i just asked the person that recomended one to me

SCSI card readers are generally hot-swappable. If yours is hot-swappable and it isn't SCSI, then it is an ATAPI model and not an IDE model. To my knowledge, no one is still making those ATAPI hot-swappable card readers. I looked hard for them a year ago but no distributors had any left in stock and no manufacturers were still making any. If you ever find any, please share the link with the group.

But be careful about this - I almost got bit by it - you'll find an IDE card reader that claims it is hot-swappable. When you read the fine print, you'll discover that, yes it is hot-swappable, but only when used with Windows and only when running their special card swapping software. Which does us MPC owners zero good.

you're right mine seems to be atapi i mean that's what it says on my mpc in the device section when i choose where it should read from. but i don't know if it's any indication of ide/atapi
this person i'm helping has a 2000xl so how much does your reader cost?

i mean i just got mine a few years back took the zip drive out and put the reader in, simple as that, but seriously i don't remember if it's atapi or ide
