Paint Wearing Off

Anyone else had this problem? It's only in this one spot. I don't wear watches, nor long sleep shirts. And I'm pretty sure that my arm doesn't even touch this part of the machine when I'm using it.

hey, when you take a damp paper towel and rub the area... do the wear marks disapear? (out of curiosity)

I'm scared to even try that in fear that it might make it worse.

Probably just a smudge.

That paint shouldnt just rub off fam. If anything its a smudge of some stuff or its a scrape and your MPC is scratched very deep.

Callused palms? A damp paper towel shouldn't make it any worse. Damp meaning wring that thing out before wiping the local area.

I don't think its a smudge. I can rub my finger across it and feel that its scratched. How it happened, I don't know. But then again, it might be a smudge. I'll try the wet paper towel thing now.

I want to believe that Akai manufactured a bunch of shitty painted parts for their last batch. I back this about 10 months ago, around the time they discontinued them.

Either you scratched it or somebody else did in your house.

That's not too likely. Until about a week ago I kept my MPC up too high for my daughter to reach. Other than her, no one other than myself is around it. I don't know. I'm happy it still works perfectly, but that's making it look real ugly. Ha ha.

this is my mp about a year ago.. when it was over 3 yrs old.

i'll try take a recent photo, it's gotten way worse. but i like it..
i'm just afraid it might rust!

Mine is doing the same thing!

I had the marking of the Main Volume pot rubbing off after just a few month of (light) use. Probably because I have a habit of constantly playing with the Main Vol.

So yea, it does wear off easily, it's a cheap powder-coating finish on those machines. Never had something like that on my 2000XL...

Yeah, its just weird because, to my knowledge, I don't rest my hands or arms on that part of the machine. And I agree, I still have my 2000XL, after 8 years, and it is still as pretty as ever (with one or two small scratches/chips).

Do you guys wear wool fabric? When wool fabric rubs on paint it wears off so that might be your guys issue.

It makes your MP sound warm!
