Does anyone know how to re-flash a 2000 xl????

When I turn on my mpc the LCD reads " Please insert the 2000xl disk", and all the led lights are on. I just purchased this and it arrived that way, but I'm betting that the previous owner tried to update the software and something went wrong. Does anyone in the forum know how to reflash an MPC???

yeah man, on akaipro.com you can grab the OS you need... stick it on your floppy disk and update it.


there should be instructions there also.

dont use OS 1.20 unless you have an IDE/ATAPI card reader... if you are using a scsi CF or a zip drive then for sure use the OS 1.14

Why is that? I use OS1.20 and SCSI CF reader and am able to use A-Z of 1Gig partitions, roughly 26 Gig. Am I doing something wrong?

no no, it isn't that it is bad... it just isn't recommended. os 1.14 is more complete and a few small things were taken out to fit in the atapi drivers in 1.20

if scsi for samplers sees this thread maybe he will explain the advantages... he now has XL's running 16GB cards.

I have the exact same problem

The only solution to this that I am aware of is reinstalling the desired os until it stops doing this. Sometimes that takes 4 or 5 installs before it stops but most folks can get it to stop that way. I don't know what causes the MPC to do that - maybe someone else does and can share that with us. At any rate, just keep reinstalling until that message goes away.

We have the 1.14 and 1.2 os versions available on the Free Downloads page of our website. If you need any help doing the installation, I am always available for questions by phone or email. We can also provide the install files on floppy disk or zip disk for a small charge in case you do not have access to the drives needed to create them yourself.

On the os version question, if you are using an IDE card reader, you must use os version 1.2 because it is the only one that supports IDE card readers. I always recommend sticking with 1.14 if you are using SCSI drives and therefore have a choice because 1.14 supports partitioning and SCSI media over 1GB in storage capacity (our card reader drives and SSDs support cards up to 16GB), where as 1.2 has no partitioning (AKAI removed it) and so you can only use 1GB on any and all media, even SCSI drives of larger capacities. Why limit yourself if you do not have to?

Well the only reason I can think of for the flashing the EPROM that the OS sits on is maybe because it is old and possibly has been done many times? I dont see how that makes much sense since it is only the OS we are talking about but maybe it has issues.... because there is a limit to how many times you can flash EPROMS before they start to mess up however that number is very high (probably in the thousands) ..... I dont know if that applies to the XL ones though but in other cases it can be an issue.
