that's what i did to my mpd 24 and it worked pretty well. i'm disappointed to learn that i won't get proper mpc pads if i buy the upgrade for my 1k though. with shipping and taxes the price gets really steep if you order from outside of the US and i'm starting to think it's not worth it.
i must say having worked with both the mpd and mpc1k i will say the 1k pads feel much better then the mpd's pads.. thicker and softer.. mpd pads felt thin and tough..
the pad corx are available for the 2000/XL/2500/3000 also via mpcstuff.com .. so the gap, im assuming, is present in most mpcs..
