Can you explain these ways of chopping?

JJ OS has non-destructive chopping. A key feature is that it allows you to freely edit the start/end points of each new region created thus regions can overlap. There is plenty of detail about this on this in the JJ OS threads.

Roland products like the MV and Fantom allow you to zoom in/out on samples and add or delete chop points. You can do this as you use the data wheel to move their cursors. As you add chop points, the new region is immediately mapped to a pad for you to preview. Once you set all your chop points, you press the execute button and your sample is chopped into the desired regions and a sample set or patch is created with these regions.

Isn't that how the Maschine 1.5 works? I don't have it anymore to verify, but I could have sworn that's how chopping worked in 1.5.

I'm not getting into this debate anymore more, just saying. :D

I am looking for it but what I've seen is that it works by chopping samples into 16ths or by transients. An MPC or MV does that and more....not do mention that the JJ OS also has non-destructive chopping. Since OS 1.5 is in beta I believe, get the feedback to NI if it wants MPC users to convert.

Also NI should understand that adding as many buttons and knobs don't always mean a better workflow. Some users feel it makes the unit more cumbersome (not necessarily me). MPCs traditionally have a data wheel and cursor keys which has been great over the years. Although the current MPCs allow you to use one Q link slider to adjust sample start and another for sample end, I still find myself using the data wheel and cursor keys to do this. It is a universal agreement in these parts that the MPC 2000 has the best data wheel of all MPCs.

Co sign it works exactly like that. As a actually user we know ha, ha that besides just reading the manual it chops just like the mpc up to 64 too. The manual gives examples not the set number as 1/16. A real user would have known that. Like you a game is going on here I don't wish to particpate in funny. Maschine is a cool groove machine try it out for yourself. Thread is getting filled with hyperbole!!!!!! I'm using 1.1 os crying out loud.

Enjoy yourselves.

Have you used the MPC 5000 OS 2 and JJ OS-XL for MPC 2500/1000? Things like non-destructive chopping (where chops can overlap each other), quickly dial in the number of chops you want (not stuck with presets 1/8, 1/16, etc). For the super nerds, you can even dial in 13.6 chops using an MPC 1000/2500  Maschine works similar but not exactly the same and not superior by any means. However, if it works for you great. It doesn't quite yet suit "my tastes and needs."

And you are correct that this thread does have some "hyperbole." I am still laughing at the fact that dude said you can't drag and drop audio/MIDI from an MPCs hard drive/CF card drive into a DAW...especially when I do it everyday.

You know me Jah I owned the 1k aka baby 5000 which you I see finally seen the light and yes akai japan has a great rental program that is free I had 5k OS 2 and APC 40 to humor you. But it really not relevant here. You are having fun and doing your thing so enjoy yourself. Though I do remember you stated you had a maschine on order last week or two weeks before. Have you actually got it yet or reading from the manual? I'm still learning and PDFs are a **** on a iPhone my time is limited on my desktop. To read and work maschine at once is troubling at best. But it isn't a mpc killer I agree with you on that. But it is a cool sample based groove machine so far for me and others that actually own it. Still a 4k still I retire.

Now you can continue your fun Jah. I'm out.

What?! Who said that? Not me. If you're referring to someone else, my mistake, just making sure you aren't accusing me of saying it. I don't really even mess with this thread anymore, it's futile and most of it is inaccurate or overly biased. My only reason for posting above was because I happened to open the thread and see that inaccuracy about chopping. I sold my Maschine for cheap to good friend who's having financial problems and had to get rid of lots of his gear. I'm fine as I have many alternatives, but I'm not arguing on behalf of MPC nor Maschine, as I like both...I was just clarifying upon a claim that was wrong and seemed ill informed.

No offense to anyone. I'm not really trying to get involved in the general debate.

no it was empty sea that said it is impossible to drag and drop midi files from the mpc to the DAW, not you. hahaha but the debate is entertaining though because it looks like some people are insecure that maybe they didn't buy the most popular or demanded piece of gear out there. hahaa...

yo I still rock an electribe ea-1 mark one for christ's sake... what ever makes awesome rugged sounds I'm down. I smash bottles and run the sound through a delay looper... then I drop a big rugged slamming beat over the top... some stuff I record through broken guitar pedals... almost everything can have an awesome sound to it and using it all is taking advantage of the situation.

The MPC 1000 is not a baby MPC 5000 by any stretch of the imagination. They are not even close. And of course it is not relevant to this discussion. I did order Maschine from Musician's Friend because it was cheaper than buying it here in Japan. However, it qualified for free shipping but I didn't realize free shipping meant they were going to ship it the cheapest way possible...parcel post. That means, it may take over 1 month for me to get it.

I believe a few guys here are just skimming over what I have written and missing the point. Mashine offers a lot of promise. As an MPC user, there are numerous things I would like to see added. Name an MPC that I didn't list the numerous things I wanted to see added to the OS. That is what I do. Due to the feedback me and many other MPC users have given to these companies over the years, we have such things as the Machine, MV series, MPC 1000/2500/3000/4000/5000 and the various operating systems for those machines. These are all cool devices.

Here is my feedback on future MPCs, MPD's, and product similar to APD/Maschine:

viewtopic.php?f=29&t=108626&hilit=unplugged
viewtopic.php?f=11&t=126242&hilit=feedback
viewtopic.php?f=29&t=110760&hilit=askia%27s

So instead of getting offended by feedback how to make a product better, get the message to the folks that can make it happen.

Blue Haze (as well as many others) wrote numerous threads about the MPC 5000s lack of a full blown sampler. Akai responded with OS 2. Consumer feedback is the key to future improvements.

How much you paid for maschine at Musician's friend? And give a review when you receive your unit and welcome to the club? For feedback NI forum mods and staff seems to be listening give them a holla. I'm still on 1.1 waiting for official 1.5 os release. Still going a little crazy with the patterns and scences shit thanks lotuz for the help. Being on mpcs for a minute is slightly challenging me to adapt to new terms and struture. But this is week second after returning from work ( I'm at work now) so an hour a night, and the one precious day off the other with wifey is all I got. Plus I been diggin this week so I got alot of records to go through. Can I Live!!!! aka walk on by mix.

That's not drag and drop from MPC to DAW as it obviously can't do that. It's not even close when compared to Maschine.

With Maschine, you can just keep coming up with patterns and whenever you feel like it, you can just drag and drop any pattern as audio or midi clip straight into your DAW. Done.

With the MPC, you would first have to save your sequence as a .MID file, not a MPC sequence file .SEQ, or resample it as audio before you even think of drag and dropping anything. Then you have put the MPC in USB mode which mounts your MPC as a drive on the desktop of your computer's operating system. And only then can you drag and drop from your computer's file system into your DAW.

It's just a whole different league. But go on and keep pretending you can "drag and drop an MPC audio track or sequence into a DAW" even though it's really dragging and dropping onto your computer's file system and then dragging and dropping into your DAW.
