Exchange tips and tricks for the Akai MPC4000

Yes, I´m in need of the special OS loader that overwrites the boot block. It´s mentioned in the MPC4000 service manual under "CPU Board Test Mode". I have a donor CPU board for my fried MPC from a Z-sampler but can´t flash the OS without this special software.

I tried to mail Akai but of course they have not replied..

Does anybody know where to get it?

Thanks!

Yes I have.

From there you can only download the regular "OS loader". I need the special one that writes to the boot block.
Somebody named Richard wrote that he got it from Akai in this thread (last post, page 1):

Thanks anyway dryad-66 :D

Edit: forgot link.

Have you checked with Forat or inquired with a service center or something?

So writing the panel o.s. doesn't do anything for you in this case I guess?

I have checked with a service tech that told me this software is not available to "the public". That´s a bit odd since a user here got it mailed to him directly from Akai.
I have not contacted Forat but will do. Thanks for the tip!

No, writing panel OS will not help me. It´s seems to be the CPU-board that is busted.

Please let us know if you have any luck. I have the same issue.

If I remember correctly, you will need a special jig in order to overwrite the boot block. the jig is only usable one time and one time ONLY!!!!

I read the thread you mentioned. That guy had his info wrong. The guy mentioned boot block OS but he was referring to the regular OS, that is available to DL.

No, I don´t think you need any special jig.
This is a quote from the MPC4000 service manual:

The Test Mode of the MPC4000 CPU Board is performed while the CPU board is mounted on the Z4/Z8 Sampler.
When the Z4/Z8 is switched on after the MPC4000 CPU Board is mounted on the Z4/Z8 Sampler, the sampler
is turned on with the MPC4000 screen.
Install the Z4/Z8 OS using the “OS Loader” of “Boot Overwrite” type via the USB port.

No mention of any special jig.

"while the CPU board is mounted on the Z4/Z8 Sampler"

A bit confusing but sounds as if the other sampler _is_ the jig?

I do know the DPS16 and MPC1000 require the use of the jig. I looked in the mpc4k and did not immediately see a connector for one.
