It's just a whole different league. But go on and keep pretending you can "drag and drop an MPC audio track or sequence into a DAW" even though it's really dragging and dropping onto your computer's file system and then dragging and dropping into your DAW.

Can you read? You just re-typed what I already wrote.

You have to turn on your computer and open up Mashine and the DAW of your choice to drag an drop files. Saving files on your MPC and going into USB mode is no more labor intensive.

While you are attempting to chop of my words (no pun intended), you never acknowledged your error when you said that the MPC can't pitch shift in real-time. When the fact remains every MPC, and nearly every drum machine ever made can do the same.

There is no need to get defensive about Maschine. I am just giving feedback. Feedback is the reason for the improvements in OS 1.5. Since Maschine's software runs on a computer giving it nearly unlimited resources, NI can make it more powerful but should temper it with ease of use. You talk about how you can use the knobs to control every function but the truth remains is that many functions still require a mouse and/or is easier to use with a mouse.

Joidibeats wrote:Hey Jahrome, Im not being a dick now, but I was just wondering why dont you go with the 2500 ? Is the JJ os for 2500 any different from the 1000 one?

I just recently purchased an MPC 1000, and an Euphonix MC Transport to go with my new Logic Pro set-up. I went with an MPC 1000 because I needed something small. The MPC 2500s JJ OS is nearly the same but you get more use out of the additional sliders and number keys. I used an MPC 2500 from 2005 until 2008 and replaced it with the MPC 5000.

Paid $600 for Maschine which is much cheaper than an MPC 1000 ???

When/if it finally arrives, I will get on the NI forum and provide feedback.

And you're asking me if I can read? Was turning on the computer and launching the DAW all that you could come up with? My computer stays on all the time and it's just as quick to launch my DAW with Maschine already loaded with the default template than turning on the MPC and loading the appropriate project and sounds. No matter however way you try to slice it, there is no way you can say "saving files on your MPC and going into USB mode is no more labor intensive" than drag and drop from Maschine to DAW.

Again, not even close. It's all about the immediacy especially if you want to talk about "real-time" controls. On the MPC, you have to go to the Q-link window and assign it to pitch before you can do "real-time" control of pitch, or go to 16-level window and assign it to Tuning. On the Maschine, you just press and hold the pad of any sound at any time and turn the Tempo knob to change the pitch of that sample. No need to go to another window to assigning anything beforehand.

Askia Shaheed wrote:You talk about how you can use the knobs to control every function but the truth remains is that many functions still require a mouse and/or is easier to use with a mouse.

Dude, just wait til you get it and have actually used it before running your mouth off about it. It's not just the knobs to control every function. Until then, when you say shlt like "the the truth remains is that many functions still require a mouse" you just end up sounding like a fool hating on it without anything to back it up with. The entire controller is designed to control pretty much every aspect of Maschine without having to use the mouse.

it would be great if you can use pads to assign the "root, low, and high" zones of a sample.

*wink wink* THOMAS @ NI.

Take the emotion out of the conversation. You do know that this is an MPC forum. You have to do a better job of selling Maschine in order to convert MPCs users. And listening to constructive feedback without insulting someone is the way to go.

You have never used an MPC before, this is quite obvious. Every MPC user knows that you don't have to use Q-link to modify the pitch of a sample. All MPCs including the ones that don't have Q links (and all nearly all drum machines) have a mode that you can adjust the pitch in realtime. This is call tuning on MPCs. You can tune individual sounds or all the sounds in a program. This is done slightly different according to the MPC or MPC OS you are using. This is a basic function that all MPC users are aware of. This is how I know you have NEVER used an MPC for longer than 5 minutes.

I stand 100% by the other comments (feedback) I gave. I won't debate them. You can take it to your superiors or not. If you look at the links I posted earlier, there is plenty of information what MPC users want.

Also, I want to address the myth. Everything Maschine does CAN NOT be done using the hardware. Also, there are numerous functions that a mouse or computer keyboard is essential and trying to use the hardware would be counterproductive. This is detailed in the manual and the numerous tutorials online. I will go into detail later.

Further feedback for Maschine based off what is in the manual:

Manual:
1. Does not give detailed info about certain functions

Hardware:
1. Jog Wheel and cursor keys are essential to hardware workstations such as MPCs, MV, Fantom, Motif, Triton, etc. This is missing in Maschine. NI should rethink the layout when/if they decide to design Maschine 2.
2. Adjustable LCDs
3. Maschine's hardware LCD/GUI is far inferior to any of the latest MPCs or MV

Software
1. Import of 3rd party sample libraries and formats: Akai, Roland, Emu, Yamaha, Giga, EXS, etc
2. Export in MPC and MV formats
3. Use of VST effects and VST instrument plug-ins directly within application
4. Realtime Timestretch and Pitchshifting (without changing tempo)
5. 2 LFOs and 2 filters per sample
6. Increased polyphony (more than 128 voices)
7. MPC styled Timing Correct/Swing (subjective)
8. Naming of files using hardware
9. MPC styled chopping of samples (JJ or Akai OS)
10. MPC-style drum program layering
12. Quick Insert FXs when sampling

Bottom line, there are numerous MPC functions that really can't be improved upon. NI should immediately incorporate these designs into Maschine.

That's not drag and drop from MPC to DAW as it obviously can't do that. It's not even close when compared to Maschine.

With Maschine, you can just keep coming up with patterns and whenever you feel like it, you can just drag and drop any pattern as audio or midi clip straight into your DAW. Done.

With the MPC, you would first have to save your sequence as a .MID file, not a MPC sequence file .SEQ, or resample it as audio before you even think of drag and dropping anything. Then you have put the MPC in USB mode which mounts your MPC as a drive on the desktop of your computer's operating system. With MPC you first have to turn the power button on by reaching way behind it and pushing the power button down, then you have to wait 10 seconds for the MPC to load up. then and only then can you load a file, by clicking MODE+PAD2, and choose a file by scrolling the data wheel several times. the process is multiplied depending on the amount of files present. it is a long and tedious process. once you find the file you want to load you then have to click DO IT. after several seconds of waiting for your file to load then can you begin to work.

with machine, It's just a whole different league. it already knows what you want to do and it does it seamlessly in its hardware without having to look at your computer screen... ever..

game changer

^^^^^^

Wicked, so now kaka talkers can make wack beats even quicker.

This thread is getting hillarious.

A maschine is not an MPC, it is inspired by an MPC with the purpose of utilising computers and accessing the extra power they have.

Both tools have advantages and limitations.

Why do people get so emotional about this stuff?

my reply was mocking the machine salesman emptysea.. and really the way he over embellishes the MPCs process.

perhaps next time i should write "im being sarcastic" just to let folks know..

Fair enough. I apologize to those of you who're interested in discussing Maschine in a civil manner as I acknowledge my part in getting riled up. As you can tell, plenty of muppets on here have been hostile and dismissive from the very beginning and still continue to be, and I admit I have gotten caught up in reciprocal negativity at times even though I try to ignore it for the most part. I'm not trying to convert anyone though. Just speaking the truth about Maschine...

It's posts like this that sincerely makes me wonder whether you have problems comprehending or just being disingenuous and contrary for the sake of it. If you actually read what I said, I'm talking about the ability to change things like pitch of any sample immediately without having to go to any Trim window to change a setting and then clicking DO IT to process the change. In Maschine, you just hold the pad with the sample and tweak the tempo knob. It does make a difference.

Askia Shaheed wrote:Also, I want to address the myth. Everything Maschine does CAN NOT be done using the hardware. Also, there are numerous functions that a mouse or computer keyboard is essential and trying to use the hardware would be counterproductive.

No one's claiming EVERYTHING can be done using the hardware. I said "The entire controller is designed to control pretty much every aspect of Maschine without having to use the mouse." What that means in practice is that all the essential aspects that you need to do while you're actually in the process of building your beat and "getting lost in the flow", you can do with just the controller. Of course, there are certain tasks that are better to do with the mouse or can only be done with the mouse.

Askia Shaheed wrote:3. Use of VST effects and VST instrument plug-ins directly within application

Yup. That's a oft-requested feature. That would be dope when using Maschine standalone. If not VST/AU plugins, I could see NI integrating a version of Kore Player inside Maschine, or even build a Maschine-specific synth module.

Askia Shaheed wrote:4. Realtime Timestretch and Pitchshifting (without changing tempo)

That's the one big thing I'm still waiting for on Maschine and one in which you would see a lot of people not even using it along with Live and just use Maschine by itself once implemented. Fortunately, NI has been very responsive and have already told us that they're working on it (this was before when even 1.1 update was out) and that they want to take their time to do it right.
