How did Su-Preme pull this off?

He introduces a sample at around 1:46 and starts playing....sounds like the pad is set to mono so it doesn't overlap. But at about 2:06 he starts hitting it and it sounds like it's set to poly, because as he's triggering it on the 1, it's playing the 2 at the same time. How can one do this?

The pad is set to mono, and he keeps hitting the same pad. I fail to see the magic involved. The whole video is about putting a drum loop and a sample loop together. Yet you think he would perform some complex trick while just **** around with the drum break? I just don't see it.

Right, but at 2:06 (and 1:50), when he hits the pad, you hear the kick that starts it off AND the snare from the previous trigger at the same time. If it was set to mono, it should cut off the last trigger, and you shouldn't hear that snare, just the kick, right?

Ok, judging by the responses, either nobody really knows or it's something that possibly can only be done other than my 500 (which is why I posted it in the 500 forum originally, since as Lamp suggested, I'm not on the same machine as su-preme). I've tried looking into it, I have the beat making on the 500 and I haven't seen an explanation. Logically it doesn't even make sense to me that you can set a pad to mono, hit it and it'll cut off only 8/10 times.

i don't see where you think it plays poly every time he hits it it starts over at the kick
the only possible way you could get this misconstrued is if your thinking the hat at the tail of the kick is the sample continuing to play

I'm just going to go ahead and say I'm nuts or something...maybe YouTube's audio compression has me trippin' hearing something differently. It just sounds like the snare is hitting at the same time as when he hits the kick at those two parts.

I think it's obviously just him hitting the pad a couple milliseconds late and the next hit "overlapping" with the first one. No trickery involved. Besides, I don't see how that function would benefit you. After all it takes about ten seconds to set up two pads to do what you're after.

I don't see how it would benefit me either, I was just curious.
