sick^^ ,how long you been messin with it,sounds like you got that sequencing down,i need to get there,i'm just getting to know the internal program structure,

do you have your drums in banks? presets? performance sets?
how are those simular to the mpc ?are the banks like the banks on the mpc(ABDC)?

whats the skinny on banks on these things?

when chopping does the wave actually get cut? how can you chop a sample or a loop in to oneshot drum kit across the board?

sorry just trying to wrap my head around this

thanks
i started working with it in early february. haven't been on it every day but i did put in a good amount of time with it.

the drums are just in instruments, i don't even know lol, i tried to save everything as a bank but when i went to load it nothing was there so for now im playing it safe and just saving each instrument, sequence, etc. individually. i need to learn how to save my drums like that so i don't need to sample new drums every time i make a beat, i'd like to be able to save and pull sounds from a floppy disk but i haven't found an effective way to do that yet..

also, i had a problem, in the manual it said that if i saved an instrument, the effect would save with it. but it didn't. do i have to save the effect? and then how do i load it to the instrument, do i have to do that Copy to Inst shit again? lampdog?

i don't know very much about banks so dont take my word for it but i think they are like "projects" on an mpc.. so when you save a bank, everything thats currently loaded gets saved.. thats what it says in the manual but it didnt work for me..

this one i can answer. when you chop a wavesample, you are changing its parameters only. if you want to actually chop it so that anything before the start point and after the end point is gone and out of the asr's memory, you can go to Command - Wavesample - Truncate. but since you are just changing the parameters, you can copy a wavesample as many times as you want (and chop it differently) and it won't take up any more memory.
if you sample a drum break in a song, what i do is make 3 or 4 copies of it, assign them to their own key on the keyboard, and chop each one into oneshot hits, like kick, hi hat, snare, and maybe another variation of one of these sounds.

cool, thanks drunkmonkey5556,sounds gppd fpr only a couple months.

im learning most of that stuff right now,the manuals are sett up wierd they repeat themself in every section which makes it very confusing cuase theres many ways to do tings but in different ways.

i'm trying to get that choppin down, someone mentioned a method of choppin but i couldnt get it to work for me,today i'm going to try to figure it out.

layers too i'm trying to figure out, i deleted a layer that i cant find anymore i thought i was doing a undo by deleting this layer ends up i deleted the instrument,i couldnt find it.

oh one other thing about saving i read last night was that if you create an intsrument in cmnd sceen and save the presets you can later call it up or it will be save as a deault preset,i'm not quite understanding that one, i mean i understand it but i cant figure it out till i try it and get it to work for me.

i was watching this guy and it got me juiced to do some choppin
anxious to learn, havent slept good since i bought this already a week stay up late and reading and messin with this .sounds that come out are sick tho.

banks are groups of instruments.

You save each instrument, then save bank. by saving instruments first, then a bank.... when you load a bank, it loads all instruments into their correct (original) locations.

this way when you save a song, the midi (internal) data of all the notes is corresponding to the right sound (track).

Without banks, you would have to remember that you had drums on the 1 track, bass on the 2 etc.

why are you having trouble saving?

i didn't save the instruments first, i thought if i saved a bank it would save them all in one bundle.. ok so i save the instruments, then save the bank, then all i have to do is load the bank, ok. thanks.

what about the effects, how can i get them to stay assigned to an instrument when i save?

remember, if you hold the key down past the end of the loop, so it is still pressed when the beat loops back around, it will play twice.

edit pitch, fine tune.

check your edit wave, and see if your end points are where they should be.

otherwise chop it up into a million pieces,

command wave.. copy wave... par only... repeat how many pieces you want,

go back thru and press edit> sample 1> pitch> define key zone by going left 2 screens, and hitting the key you want that chop on twice, high key low key, then go back right one screen and reset the corse pitch to original

same for the copys

sample 2> keyzones, pitch back down.

you can set it to no pitch, but i never do.

then you got one sample, parameters copied 10 times, and set to their own keys, so you can go to edit screen and go up the keys, sample 1 sample 2 etc. and they all sound exactly the same.

then go back to edit, wave, and for each of the 10 samples, edit the start and end points to be the parts you want to play for that key.

even if its a looped sample, you sometimes get a better flow when you seperate it into sections and tap each out on the downbeats

maybe you already know all that, but thats the way to chop on the ASR

i don't know if it was posted here yet, but here is a good video of someone chopping samples on the ASR-10

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ShCTLJm5UXc

He's ok with explaining it, but if you already have a basic understanding of how it works, this video will help you.

Recently recvd from a friend. I also placed it in my first post on page 1 as well.

"I noticed the asr thread has been getting a lot of attention these days ............

It's a link to add to your references column..............

I referenced it just today to write a disk from a virtual drive (Ensoniq formatted CDR Series).

Well, here's the link. Thought it might help someone else out."
