i don't get why the mpc3000 has a more unique sound vs the 2000xl/newer models. its 16bit and 44.1khz?

No doubt. I remember having a digital synth hooked up once and was trippin like where is that sound coming from. It tripped me out because it sounded analog and I knew I didnt have anything analog in my set up. I dont have any real proof that the electronics/converters are different, but I'd bet money
I also remember reading that Roger used pre emphasis on the machines that he designed. Im not sure if this carried over, but my 2kxl didnt sound like my 3k.
