Using the same drum kit over and over again

In the nineties he did use a lot of different drum sounds and you could still tell he made those beats, but nowadays he often uses the same drum sounds and his sound has become too predictable imo.

Yeah, you can use completely new sounds for every new track and still get your own "sound" through..

i think preme wore out his drums an patterns listening to the blaq poet album some dope tracks but dude dont sound he has progressed or evolved too much.

his sound is a bit too 90's so shit comes off kind stuck, boring and redundant.

dude is legendary but i have not seen the phase progression thru eras that u see with other producers.

like hate to be cliche but dilla u had the tribe tripped out spooky jazz era, then the sunny laid back pharcyde era of his sound, then the more up energized busta era, then the neo soul slum era, then the main-stream with edge qtip era(breathe n stop), then the electro ruff fraft era then the jayib era.

u get the pic his sound has changed but maintained a common thread, plus dillas drums aways sound current not too old skool unlike guys like premo an large pro alot of there shit comes off dated.

but u can reuse the same sounds long as u keep the patterns fresh and filter drum different for different tracks most wont know.

but when its obvious like when 9th came out in his early career with the same snare n pattern, and chops in the same way, similar to how premo chops in the same way it can get boring.

i've used the same drums before, but i've always layered them differently or eq'd them differently, etc.

as long as it sounds good to my ears while im listening to it and it matches pretty well with the rest of the track, then i'll keep using the same sounds. whatever sounds good

I try to use a different drum kit in every track. Not only does this keep things interesting, but it also gives me a chance to chop up another breakbeat! I agree that using the same drums can make music sound bland and uninspired real quick.

Pete Rock got caught up with those Mountain drums for a minute back in the 90's, and 9th Wonder had those same FL drums for like 3 years in a row...Plus the snare from D'Angelo's Chicken Grease has been absolutley raped by almost everyone for the last decade...

Dudes really need to step up their digging game man, or at least layer and tweak those drums so they sound a lil' bit different each time...
