little help on drum patterns and sequencing samples

could someone rundown some basics on creating drum patterns ( i have done the basic kick kick snare hit hat hi hat hi hat and so forth) how can i expand on creating better drums with more rhythem etc..??

and how to sequence chopped samples. my problem is that when i chop my sample and then rec the melody and go to playback all the chops are playing at once instead of how i played it out chop by chop.

Could you give a step by step description to what you're doing? Because you're definitely doing something wrong, and it would be easier to point it out if we knew exactly what you were doing..

Yes...I'm about confused by what you are doing with this chopping too.

If you have a 1 bar sample that loops neatly, you then chop it up but you said that only the first chopped section now plays, that would be easy to explain.

If you have properly assigned all your chopped sections to different pads & play them in a pattern, but they are all then getting played back on the same beat at the start of a sequence I can only think of a rather unlikely situation where you put your MPC into step edit mode, played your pads but were in fact putting them all on the same step.

Ah yes I know this feeling. It happened to me recently with Logic a few times. A problem sorts itself out....but you want it to happen again so you can figure out what exactly was wrong & what must have happened for it to be right now.

about drum patterns im having trouble laying down my drums ontop of my sample(s) and having them on beat. everytime i try to match them its always off like one note then 2 notes then 1 and so forth...

how can i have them on point?

I find it easier to place certain notes by using headphones.

Like Cheech said,you gotta turn your Quantize off.It's kind o f hard to get the timing down with it on.It's easier to play the drums in realtime but the patterns won't be as tight but with practice you should get it down in no time.What's also good is just make a pattern and scroll through the quantize and see how it effects the pattern.
