Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

This may be a stupid question but I'm looking at buying an MPC for the first time and kind of overlooked this aspect, but is it necessary to run through an external mixer for recording and/or just listening through headphones to get that big sound that I hear on every MPC?

Is there an amp in the mixers that give the mpc that bass boost?

I'm putting a small setup together and I want to be able to get a good synth and guitar as well, so I probably won't have an extra $100 or so needed for a mixer. But I'd be buying the MPC specifically for the big, hard-hitting drums, so I want to make sure I can get that sound without an extra amp or mixe needed.

btw - I'm planning on getting a good pair of studio headphones so I won't need the mixer/amp for moniters either, as I don't have enough to get the speakers right now.

Thanks
