NEED HELP ASAP re: 4000 PLUS White Version???

Guys i need your help. In the next 24 hours i need to make my mind up if i will cop a 4000 which is for sale.

Here is the issue..
Its a WHITE version 4000 right.. However, the guy selling it says that on the box it has a sticker which says "PLUS - inc 80GBHD CD-RW 272MB memory IB4D,V1.45 "

Now, i was under the impression that ONLY the blue 4000 was a "PLUS" version??
Can anybody confirm/add to this??

Im scared the units been tampered with or something.

I think the blue models have small white sticker on the back with says something like mpc4kBLxxxx where BL i think stands for blue

so maybe you can look to see if it has that

Forget what the box says, how about the unit itself. The white units were made before Akai was bought out by Alesis/Numark, so they're considered the last of the originals so to speak.

The blue units were made after the buyout of Akai, so there you have it. But at this point, a lot of folks are doing their own upgrades to their units (myself included) mainly by upgrading the hd's and an occasional dvd r/w upgrade too.

I've upgraded to a 160 g hd as opposed to the 60 g that came with the unit...def a big difference.

How much is he asking for it? Make sure everything works and still talk him down in the price. Get it and upgrade it yourself like Dab said.

The seller has just told me:
"did some checking on the web this is a plus version being it has all the plus options preinstalled thats why it has the sticker on the box"

I need to know:
-WHEN did akai start installing the 80 GIG drives and 272 MEG RAM from factory?? Did they ever start putting them into white 4000's before the BLUE one??
In other words, could this unit be a blue version in white clothes??

The back has a white sticker with a number, it doesnt start with BL or anything though.

Im just scared because, what if this unit was upgraded as a "PLUS" version at the time NUMARK bought Akai ??
(Im scared because i REALLY dont want Numark to have touched this unit, as the blue one they touched had problems.. ALSO, the BLUE 2000XL with mCD drive i bought and wasted money on has major midi problems too! So if i get phucked over AGAIN im gonna cry)

What mainly made a "plus" was the addition of the 80 g hd & the IB4D expansion board.

Even before the "plus" version came about, you could get a 4k in just about any configuration you wanted. They used to be titled "Studio A, B, or D" I think, but still came with the 60 g hd as standard and 272 mb ram even back then.

So maybe you got one of the first versions of the plus before they went to the blue scheme.

have a look at an MPC4000 white version and MPC400 blue version
they have some buttons which are coloured differently too

for example on the lefthand side, beside the pads....the buttons are all black on the white version, they are all white on the blue version, same goes for buttons by start stop sequence area....someone would hardly go to effort of changing all buttons as well as casing

There is no difference except color they are the same machine blue plus or white plus. Just a marketing scheme and yes the effects board is standard on all units. Only the ram and hard drives were added to the penny tight base model by in 2002. I bought a plus white which in Japan comes with 512 ram, 80G HD, and CDR standard. I think stateside had 275 ram and 60G with or without cdr. This blue unit marketing came out from 2004 with no changes but color. In fact japan akai floated the idea of a black 4k but that went to the 5k. Go figure......

I will just explain that the reason i payed more $$$ for this MPC is that this unit is actually BRAND NEW in the box :> This was actually old stock from the seller which he was clearing.. I thought it sounded abit dodgy too when i first saw the ad i must admit but i got alot of photos and checked his background etc.. Its a very positive psychological feeling to know that nobody has ever used it before (for me personally).
Im over the moon as i have been looking for a mint 4000 for a while but not many which ship to australia.. This guy was actually working out of NSW Australia so it worked out good.
Should be receiving the unit next week sometime and looking forward to using the 4000 exclusively. Now, i just hope because it is a PLUS model that i dont get any of those FATAL ERROR messages!!

I got it when trying to copy a folder from memory via aksys to my pc desktop. I deleted that one folder and haven't
had the problem since. It is not isolated to white or blueface 4k's imo.

Hmmm! Interesting stuff Lampdog.. 250 bucks ey? PLUS postage internationally to and back again. This COULD start getting more expensive than i thought !!

Good on you m8.. I was actually going to give them a call myself to get the lo-down on all this but then this brand new 4000 came up and didnt get a chance to call.. So yeh thats good to know. From reading the whole VST website it seems these guys are THE akai good guys.. Def be seeking there help if anything goes down.

Same here bro.. I got lucky with my white 4000, I brought it brand new on ebay with adat and world clock digi in & outs for
$1100.. I still have my blue 4000 with fatal error problem, I'm just keeping it for parts
