I'm brand new to the 1000 (have the RAM upgrade and JJOS free), and chopping isn't covered in the manual, so hopefully this question is legit:

So I chop a sample up over 16 pads throughout bank A, selecting "create new program" when I do this. I add a kick, snare and hat to the first three pads of bank B of the same program. I notice when I record that it appears the pads in bank A cut off my bank B pads as well as each other. After playing around, I found that creating a separate program for the drum hits alleviates this, and I just assign the second program to separate tracks.

Am I correct in assuming that when a sample is chopped and made into a new program, ALL pads across all banks of that particular program will cut each other off, or is there another way where I don't need to create a separate program for the drum hits to not cut each other off? It just seems like a waste when I have one program with 3 empty banks.

Hopefully this makes sense...

That's what I initally thought, but it's not the case. None of the pads are set to a mute group at all, but they're cutting each other off like they are.

I have a short mono sample of a guitar, chopped, it says create a new program and I say yes. so I have the sample chopped across say 8 pads. It automatically makes them so any one of them cuts the others off. Even a blank pad in the same program will cut a pad off that has a sample on it, and none of the pads are set to a mute group, mute target, nothing. I have to make a brand new program for anything else to not be cut off by the pads in the program that the sample is in. Hopefully this makes sense, I'm trying to explain it best I can with the little knowledge of this machine that I have acquired in the last day.

EDIT: I think I've got it figured out. I thought that the Play and the Voice Overlap settings were the same thing (both can be either Poly or Mono), but I guess the Play setting applies to the entire program, and when a sample is chopped and made into a new program, it is automatically set to Mono. So I would just have to switch the program from mono to poly and assign just the pads with my chopped sample to a mute group and my drum hits can just stay as they are.

Yeah, that's been said many times before I remember, mono program is default or something like that.
It's driven alot of people crazy in the past.
