velocity/sensitivity problems

i am having troubles with the sensitivity of my pads. i have a blue mpc with the new pads upgrade and i asked the seller about it and he said there was nothing wrong with them.
i am reading the manual and watching youtube tutorials (the onelonedork ones) and everything was going pretty much fine until some where in video 2 where i am in the screen where you assign sounds to pads. this is where i encountered the problem. i have to slam the pads almost as hard as i can (which hurts my fingers and im sure isnt good for the machine) to get them to make even the tiniest peep. the sensitivity is fine when i am just navigating through menus, using the pads to swap from screen to screen. i only have to tap it lightly to get that stuff going, but when it comes to this screen and i am assigning samples, the sensitivity is just terrible. i asked someone about this who also has an mpc and they told me to use the full level button. i hit it and it makes it so the pads play at full volume, but the sensitivity problem is still there. i still have to pound them hard to get them to play. is this a faulty mpc or is there a way to fix this?
yes yes i am reading the manual and im sure you could tell me to read it more but it would take me a long time to get to that point and i am reading it in order so i would be dealing with this problem the whole way until i got to it, which i really dont want to do.

you don't need to read the entire manual, look in the table of contents and you'll see "Adjustment of Pad Sensitivity" which tells you which page to skip to

Try changing the sensitivity curve.

If you're using the replacement operating system from JJ there are more sensitivity settings, including the "Level On" setting

It might be that it makes no difference, since it does seem strange that it's fine except for on one screen, but it might be worth trying it out anyway

i looked for the 'adjustment of pad sensitivity' in the table of contents and scrolled through every page on the list (i am using the manual downloaded off akai's site) and i couldnt find it anywhere. could you tell me the page its on?

also how do i go about deleting samples off the mpc which i dont want? the thing came with a bunch of programs which i dont like but in the program mode there is a purge button which apparently only deletes unused samples.

just connect it via usb to the computer and delete on the computer as if it were a usb.

Seriously?! jeez. you have fingers, right? otherwise using an MPC will be hard.
Press Ctrl-F and search the PDF file.
That'll show you it's Chapter 17

search for "Deleting" - that will tell you how to remove programs/sequences/samples from memory, but they'll still be saved.

As Flow Mechanic said, for the memory card or hard drive you can access it over USB and delete files that way.

You can't access the INTERNAL MEMORY over usb, so if your mpc is autoloading the contents of INTERNAL MEMORY you either want to turn off autoload, or delete its contents: go to SAVE, change the "SAVE to" field to INTERNAL MEMORY then select the files/directories to delete, then press [F2] DELETE

mhm. thanks for the help. i had read that chapter and it did not assess the problems i was asking about.

so the velocity/sensitivity problem can be fixed by going to chapter 17. perhaps i have the different manual (im using the one off the akai site, is that the wrong one?), because as i said i searched all through it and i did not see a page called "Adjustment of Pad Sensitivity". chapter 17 has foot switch, adjusting the master level, adjusting the contrast of LCD, and initialize to factory preset.

and yes i do have fingers but its not fun having to slam the pads so hard that i feel like i am going to break them and the machine.

I just downloaded it again, on page 101 right after "initialize to factory preset" is "adjustment of pad sensitivity"

ok it turned out i did indeed have the wrong manual downloaded. lol

I'm having a similar issue. I set the velocity sensitivity to 25 and I still have to bang the hell out of the pads. It was set at 15 when I got it and it was impossible to get it to register at over 25%. Is there anything I can do? I doesn't seem normal.

I bought used, but I seem to have the new style pads, I can pull any of the pads in the corners out.
