Is this happening because I need 32MB Sample Ram Expansion?

Whenever I manually chop my sample and create a new sound(extract what ever sound I want from the sample to later on assign the sound to a pad)The Mpc only lets me do it a certain amount of times before it says "Not enough Memory"...Is this because I need to expand the Ram?

I thought I could manually chop and assign my chops to pads how ever many times I please without needing any upgrade of ram.

if your 2000(xl) is not with the ram expansion... you only have 2MB not 32MB...

The ram in the sampler is ONLY for having more sample time... in other words it lets you have longer samples and more samples in your current song. I suggest that when you sample stuff into the machine... you sample it in mono instead of stereo.. especially on drum samples. That right there will take up less then half the sample time of those samples in stereo.


remember.. more RAM = more sample time (more samples loaded and possibly bigger samples in your current project)

Thanks for replying mr_debauch I understand what your saying...I never sample in stereo anyways I always sample in mono...But this problem still occurs...I even put a record that normally plays on 33 to 45 and then when I sample that I tune it in the trim mode...I get about 21.9 seconds to sample and I cant even use all of it without the mpc saying "not enough memory" when I chop it manually before assigning it to a pad.

• Time:
This is used to specify the sample time to be allocated to the sample, in seconds (in 0.1
second steps). Any number can be entered here up to the maximum available sampling
time. In a non-expanded MPC2000XL, the maximum sampling time is 21.9 seconds mono
or 10.9 seconds stereo. In a fully expanded MPC2000XL (total 32 megabytes) the maximum
sampling time is 378.6 seconds mono or 189.2 seconds stereo.

without the ram upgrade you should only have 20 seconds or so.
