Testing a used 4000 for "Fatal Error" message?

I'm considering buying one from this guy and I'm wondering if there is a way to test for this before purchasing?

I've seen some say that it occurs when loading large files above 50 seconds or so and others saying it occurs when loading certain 24 bit files.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Yeah, don't do it.
With the recent flux of peoplewho purchased 4k's that were supposed to be working and had problems or later developed problem seems funny you are thinking of picking up a broken unit.
It has to be really cheap to make sense.
You are confusing when someone makes the unit freeze to the unit freezing.
They are 2 totally different aspects.
Typically a reboot clears the when you crash the unit.
Bottom line?
If you go check it out and it does it when you turn it on then add $500 Forat/VST to what ever you pay for it.

Well, I went for it. Had some time to test the unit. Loaded up some 24/44.1, 24/48 and 24/96 files, had no problems. Even programmed a quick sequence on it. Tested all knobs and sliders. At this point, all I can do is hope it's truly fine.

Right now, my 3000 has some serious timing issues and I just want to be able to make some stuff. Might be sending that one off to Bruce soon enough.

Since it cleared that means it could have easily be user generated.
If does show up again at least you have a better chance of something like the RAM being a problem.
The biggest thing you should be looking at is a power supply repair or maybe a resolder of a circuit.

Just to clarify, I never had any problems starting up the unit, I just was looking for advice on "how" to test whether or not the unit I was looking to buy "might" have said problems. The unit appears to be in great condition and I thank God for that.

I meant the seller having problems.
Usually when someone becomes concerned with the Fatal it's not the oops it's happened it's the boot up error.

Now I see that you didn't have a seller with a broke unit so now I adjust my reply to be turn it on and see what happens.

I misunderstood and thought you had someone selling a unit with problems, not a what should I look for.
