Can I import a MID (midi file) to use as a Track in MPC?

Hi,

I'm trying to convert some DAW-based tracks into MPC tracks, for live shows.

I understand how to import MID files from my computer to the MPC, but I can only access them as Sequences, not Tracks.

So let's say I have a couple of different MID files, 1 is externally controlling Synth A, and the other is controlling Synth B. How can I import these into the MPC to play them both at the same time? It would be perfect if I could only put these MID files into a Track on the MPC, but I can't figure out how to do it!?

BTW I'm using Akai OS... If this is something JJOS can do, please let me know, and which version... because I need to be able to do this.

welcome to the forums,

to my knowledge there is no way to load a .mid file directly to a track.
you can only load .mid files as sequences into the mpc sequencer and then use seq edit or step edit to move the info to the different tracks. this maybe taking a whole lot of work, depending on the type and amount of material you try to import for your show.

you can also look at a .seq file you created on the mpc in any host daw that can display midi information because the .seq is just a midi file with some special information from the mpc. that way you can see how the track info must be laid out and then you probably can load a whole song to a sequence with all your midi tracks at once.

good luck and please report back if you find a convenient way to do this kind of task as i also like to know if this is possible in an easy way.

If there was a way to copy a MID or SEQ to a Track, then this would solve my problem... I checked in SEQ EDIT but it doesn't seem to be possible here either...

I find this really weird... I'm new to the MPC, and I assumed that you could transfer Midi sequences back and forth from MPC to computer... But it's useless like this... Let's say I'm working on a song in my DAW, and I'm sequencing 2 external synths with 2 separate Midi tracks -- Is there really no way that I can import both of these Midi tracks as MID files from computer to MPC, and have them play at the same time on my MPC? As far as I can tell, this would only be possible if there is some way to copy MPC MID or SEQ files onto Tracks

Hopefully I'm missing something...?

have you thought of playing back your tracks like you have them laid out now and simply record the midi events in realtime to the mpc sequencer? that way you can at least transfer one track at a time.

in seq edit or step edit you can move, copy and paste almost every single information of your events to any track. just move your cursor to all possible fields and turn the data wheel to see the different options.

look for other options - can you merge your two .mid files for two synths to one .mid file with two synths on different midi channels? a seq file from the mpc does also contain info of several tracks with different midi channels so it must be possible to put all your tracks into one (for one song).

yeah i thought of that. definitely a last resort though because that'll take forever.

it doesn't seem like you can copy from a Sequence then paste to a Track. but i will look into it some more.

I'm pretty sure that this is not possible.

I would think it'd be possible but so far I can't figure out how to do this
