The problem I have with Ableton is it doesn't do music notation. This is what seperates it from the major players. Everybody can't read music, so folks like this could care less about this feature.

If you're the kind that constructs their music instrument by instrument (no sampling), then you'll probably want to go the pro tools, nuendo, logic route or whatever, Live wouldn't fit the script.

So what I'm saying is all these daws have their merits and features (whatever they may be) that allow the user to maximize his/her talents/abilities.

I just learned Live about two weeks ago and I must say its the only program that seems really intuitive to me. I've been using Logic, ProTools, and nothing come close to the ease of use.

You never really learn live. So I've been told.

Live is like Pookie and crack, it keeps callin me! I still cant do half of what I can in FL Studio but I still wanna learn it for some reason! :(

Once you keep working with it, you'll start thinking FL Studio is limited. That's what happened to me.

yeah.. for me putting stuff into my pc is easiest with piano roll
but if id want to replay that part on my trumpet.. 'reading' a piano roll isnt easy.. its more like watching which notes, and listening for the exact timing. 'piano roll to notation' would be a cool feature (im not specifically talking about live)

I just got live lite 6 with my with my firewire solo. Haven't really got a chance to mess with it though. I use a 2k classic. Any tips for the lite version.

I just bought a Mac Book today.. (to put that 2 year old Mbox 2 to work... only used it for a month or so). Ableton lite came with my MPK. I only read the first page of posts and Im ready to clock out and go home. I got work to do. Only thing is I been on the MPC so long... Guess it couldnt last forever. (Every time I think of stayin wit 'er.. she bring a friend along and make a brotha reconsider.)

Revisited Ableton last week and actually managed to finish a beat. In the 3-4 years I been stuffing around making all kinds of tracks (but mostly f*cking around and doing nothing) I've never finished anything, let alone put something together. You can check it here: http://www.soundcloud.com/greenback

Be gentle it's my first foray into hip-hop ;)

But anyway, back to the topic. Been on the Ableton website recently and seen this:

http://www.ableton.com/skibeatz

Great to see a respected hiphop producer making a vid showing workflow. Jeff's vid was cool and all but did'nt delve into workflow TOO much. I am going to give Ski's method and preset a run tonight and see how it goes.

I also have a question. I've been in the market for an s950 lately to use with my modest set-up, mainly only to run drums through for that 12-bit grit, and using the low-pass filter to filter out basslines (though been simplistically using the EQ3 preset in Live for the same thing). Does anyone have a fairly accurate way of reproducing the s950's 12-bit crunch? Surely someones do A/B's and put something together? Surely?

Has anyone seen a good video explaining how to use the MPC 1000 with Live 8.1? I've read a plethora of material trying to explain midi synchronization and I simply cannot figure it out as I'm not a very tech savvy person. I was hoping for some visual aid. Thank you in advance.
