Sorry if this has already been covered.
But, I just got me MPC today and Im not getting anything in or out of the back panel 6.35 inputs.
Im using a mono rca adapter.
Im a total newbie, I read the manual but found nothing.
Is there some setting somewhere or is it my adapters that are faulty?
If you need any more info please ask.
Thanks a million.

PS can someone move this to the Technical - 1000 forum.
I missed the JJOS part.
Thanks.

I've never heard anyone call them 6.35 connectors before. I had to google quarter inch in millimetres to check what you meant

You should be getting a sound out of the stereo output jacks immediately (assuming you load a sample in).
The individual outs need to be assigned in the software before anything comes out of them.

Yeah, Im getting audio from headphones.
So its not busted. My adapters are mono, would that be a problem.
And by programing in the imput do you just mean setting it to Analouge as opposed to Main or Digital?
If so yeah I have it set to Analouge.
I suspect it may be the adapters. But any help would be really apreciated.
Im banging my head on the wall a bit here.

Also, I thought the 1000 had internal sound, but I cant get that working either (or was I mistaken)

Thanks allot.

I was also trying to find out how to connect an rca cable in stereo to the mpc 1000, but I thought you couldn't do it unless you had a digital coaxial cable. I want to sample off my dish network satelitte receiver which has sirius/xm and a lot of great rare soul stations. It has an optical digital OUT and RCA outs, but no coaxial OUT that I could just connect straight to the mpc.

I'd like to just be able to plug the RCA red/white straight to the mpc, if possible? Otherwise I have to buy optical and digital cables and a converter box.

No, each jack socket is mono, so that's fine.

how do you know it's not recording a sample, do you see no waveform after sampling?

as for output, you should check whether the pads are assigned to the main outs of the assignable mix outs, which you can do via the mixer mode, [MODE] + [PAD8], and check the volume level isn't right down.

also turn [FULL LEVEL] on just to check that it's not that the output is just too quiet

rca-to-1/4 adaptors are just metal, they can't really fail to work

Wow! thanks for the help.
Still no luck on either problems.

It just sits waiting for imput signal.

As in, can make noises without a pair of headphones or audio outs pluged in.

I tried the things you said about going and fidling with the mixer.
There where no problems there.
I still cant get sound out of it without headphones or imput sound via the record in.
need help :?:

no. definitely not.

unless you drop it on a hard surface, then it will make a sort of smashing noise

I have 1/4" adapters for my headphones, but I'm assuming that won't fit to an rca cable which is bigger than 1/8". I didn't know they made them for rca cables, that should work and be a lot less expensive then buying digital cables and a converter box, thanks.

I'm also planning on recording my Motif into the mpc's audio tracks and I just bought two cheap 1/4" instrument cables. Do you think putting 1/4" adapters on both ends of an rca cable and running them from the Motif to the mpc instead of the instrument cables would sound as good?

Thanks

poundaproblem wrote:Tweak, what peice of gear are you trying to connect the MPC to?

Well, two pieces....

1. Connecting a satellite tv receiver to the mpc to sample music off the sirius/xm channels

2. Connecting a Motif 6 to the mpc to record the Motif as audio tracks.

I'm going to try what Pastor suggested, getting a couple 1/4" adapters for the RCA cable, which should solve the problem of sampling from the satellite receiver.

Then I thought if I get four 1/4" adapters altogether, I could connect my Motif to the mpc in the same manner, with 1/4" adapters on all four ends of the RCA cable. Then I could return the instrument cables I just spent $20 on, and buy two extra adapters instead for just a few dollars.

But, I was wondering if the sound quality is less, using RCA cables to record a keyboard instead of 1/4" instrument cables. RCA cables are much cheaper, so I tend to think the quality would be lessened, but I've never tried with just RCA's so I don't know. The sound quality is fine when sampling with RCA's, are keyboards any different?

Your Motif outs are 1/4" and your mpc ins are 1/4".. Why not just get the cables that make most sense? 1/4" cables are more rugged than rca. Seems like a lot of faffing about, using 4 rca to 1/4" adapters when you can just use two 1/4" cables. It's worth spending the extra few bucks for the correct cables that will last many years.

Regarding your satellite tv receiver, I have no knowledge of them; what they look like, what audio signal outputs they have, or anything, so I can't comment on that.

yeah, its not a big deal. I just spent all my cash on my mpc and motif and I want to buy midi cables, so just an alternative. Thanks
