Assign drum to specific track

haven´t found anything helpful in the manual.

is there a way to assign a pad to a certain track from the scratch? kind of having a bassdrum on track 1 and a hihat on track 2. making a sequence in which a pad is ALREADY assigned to a spedific track..

let´s say like the elektron machinedrum.

not sure why you would do this pre- starting the beat but you could just go tk-1, assign a prog, tk-2 assign prog, tk 3-assign prog etc etc.

I and I think 99.9% of mpc users would do it while we go along, i.e lay down the hi-hats, then scroll to a new track for the kick, then a new track for the snare etc etc. This makes it easier for using automation an building a song.

I think he's asking, is there a way to setup a default sequence, where tr1-Bd, tr2-SN... etc..

You could set up the sequence exacly as you want - set up a program(s), lay out the tracks, etc.. Save this sequence (still empty, but set up) and set it to autoload on startup, so that whenever you turn on your machine it'll be there for you as a blank slate.

I have template sequences I always use.

Track 1 = snare
Track 2 = kick
Track 3 = hihat
Track 4 = bass
Track 5 = main sample
etc.

I also have a lot of pre-chopped drumbreaks assigned to a program

So I load up the template, assign my sample program to track 5, drum program to track 1- 3, and I'm ready to go

Well Pepe, usually you set up a "Program" which tells what samples are on what pads.
SO
you could set up a program for each track where the only thing assigned to the pads was a single sound. you'd need a diff. program per track in that case.

OR you could set up one program where you set up what samples you want and on what pads and then use that program on all the tracks - but then you could accidentally tap in a snare on your bass drum track for example.

Honestly any "assigning" you do is more in your head. . just keep your fingers under control when tapping in your beats. -UNLESS you make and assign a program per track.

Set up that autoload too!!

programm 1 to track 01- my bassdrum

Assign all ur drumsounds to the same program

Assign this program to all ur drum tracks

to record into different tracks, you have to switch tracks. don't think there's a way around this.

it's only one button press away!


yes it wold be great to be able to record into all tracks at once, on a pad assignment basis. . Or record into one track and then the MPC could split the data down to individual tracks. Maybe make the request on the JJ forum.

Thought u were talking about changing programs.

U can record everything into one track with overdubs.
Assign each pad to another output and seperate them on the mixing board.

BTW, u can easily switch to another track while the mpc's sequencer is recording.

i would also like to be able to do this..

my issue is tha ti cant play just one drum track on the pads at a time.. i grew up playing percussion: congas, djembes etc, so i like to play my drum patterns live all at once using several sounds/pads, but then my entire drum pattern is assigned to just one track which is a nightmare for mixing etc...

is there a way to go in after the fact and split it up into different tracks? or set it up beforehand? i was trying to figure out how to track out using pad mutes but everything seems to be based on track mutes. i've been trying to train myself to just lay down one track at a time, but its just not the same... any advice/workarounds etc on how to deal with this would be greatly appreciated!!

(btw ,if it matters. im using an mpc 4000, and also have a 3000 i could use-- but iwould be willing to switch over to something else if it would allow me to do this...this honestly may be a dealbreaker for me-- there must be a way to do this, otherwise why would akai build a 16 pad machine?? could have just made it 4 pads it seems)

Yes.

Go to MODE+Pad13.
Go to the EVENTS tab.
Change to Edit: MOVE.
Hit the pad or pads you want to move to a different track.
Go over to the top-right and set the 'To sq:X Tr:X' to whichever track you want to move your pad events to.
Easy

I like to play my sounds into mpc at the same time too. Being able to easily move pads to different tracks in this way means your live flow won't be stifled for the sake of production.

Ok...so...

i didn't really read every post...mainly because I need to get thoughts out as soon as they come to me...(ADD/ADHD)...my attention span is shorter than a fly's...

So...I haven't really read into this that much, but from what I've been reading over the past few years, there isn't really a way to do what would actually help with creative processes... Assign pads to tracks...

Example... My blank Autoload is as follows...

Track 1-Samples
Track 2-Kick---Pad 1
Track 3-808---Pad 2
Track 4-Kick2---Pad 5
Track 5-Clap---Pad 7
Track 6-Snare---Pad 10
Track 7-Hi-Hat---Pad 4
Track 8-Tamb---Pad 8

Now... Instead of having to go through each track separately and recording a single sound...it would be great to be able to play it out and know it already automatically went to it's respective track. One way around this...and iI do believe it has been mentioned before...is to use one track, play it all out, copy and paste however many times you need to, delete all but the sound(s) you want on that specific track, rinse, repeat...for me it's a pain in the AYUS!!! yes...ayus...

My setup is as follows

MPC 1000 + Juno G(Wish I had the Gi or a Fantom) = Everything but sampling. I rarely sample on my 1000...

MPC 2000xl (Solo...as it should be) = ALL Sampled tracks on this.

MPC 2500/4000/5000 = Coming soon

what to focus on from here on is from the 1000 up...with the exceptions of the 500 and Ren...they suck monkey balls in my opinion and should not be in the "MPC" category...

With that said... When using the 1000 and up...it feels and sounds different I make all my Rap/R&B/Synthy Hip-Hop-ish tracks. My drum patterns are always different for these types of tracks for obvious reasons. it would help if I could just pay it all out and not have to go through the copy and paste crap. I tried...in MY experience, it didn't sound the same when I did this as opposed to the play it out and not worry method....
