Sound library/Library music

I just discovered this genre a few months ago and immediately loved it. Great for sampling and enjoying the music too! I have listen to a few artists on youtube, especially the KPM classics( Keith Mansfield, Alan Hawkshaw, Clive Hicks...) but didn't buy any album yet.

I'm planning to buy some LP's and have the opportunity to buy some Sound Stage records( with Gerry Butler, Trevor Bastow, Patrick Wilson, Syd Dale and a few others). I don't know any of them and can't find informations about 'em, do you know if they are good?

If you have other recommendations on artists, labels etc..., don't hesitate!

Sound Library records?? I have well over 350 of 'em. Beware there is tons of sh!tty library records too, even on some of the best labels. But alotta the top pieces are still going for pretty pennies.

You saw some that weren't expensive, but were they good records? You mentioned KPM & SoundStage, and I can tell you SoundStage is kinda wack once you get in the late teens, and KPM is hit or miss. You can find some krapp in between 1000 - 1200 series (which is where a lotta the good stuff is) and you can find a few gems after 1200 (where most people think it's all synthesized krapp). You just gotta know.

Here's a few more pointers:

Bruton - Gems are scattered. You'll have to buy & try, but the good thing about them is the way they label their series. The catalog numbers are 1 - ??, but they start with letters (BRA, BRB, BRC, etc), so you'll see BRB 1, BRB 2, BRB 3, etc, and most of the music in the series will be similar. So if for example, you get BRL 2, and it's jazzy, for the most part, all others you see with BRL will be similar.

DeWolfe - Plenty of gems, and they usually are early, or mid in the series. The good stuff seems to run close to one another, with a few fillers between them. They also have the previous 5 or 6 releases on the back of the album with descriptions. The real gems can be costly, but sometimes you can get lucky and get some lesser praised, good stuff cheap.

Sonoton - Reeeaaally hit or miss. The best bet is the early jawns, and a few gems in the middle. Total krapp once you get deep in the middle/late in the series.

MP2000 - French libs. Can be very expensive, even for the krappie ones.

And the last one I'll give you is: Boosey & Hawkes - The most hit or miss (mostly miss) outta all of these. Pick these up only if you're absolutely sure about the LP.

There's plenty of other lib labels in my collection, but I'll let you dig, and discover as I did.

-KPM 1058(Keith Mansfield, Johnny Pearson...): Gentle sounds volume 2(1970)
-KPM 1037(Alan hawkshaw, keith Mansfield...): Flamboyant themes(1968)

Hope they will be good! It seems like good years and composers.

Surprisingly, I don't have either one of these. But judging from the Cat. number, Composer, Year, Label, and Title, I'd say your probably okay.
