Got my Mackie Onyx finally! Was wondering though...

Errm, that mixer looks pretty slick to be honest, but I paid like about a sixth of what that costs for my Mackie. That board is probably much better than the Mackie but I've been playing around with the 1220 and it sounds real nice to me.

Depends really but I can't say I know much about mixers, just been tryna upgrade stuff recently that's all, had a Technics DMC mixer but that was completely inadequate for mixing down, just a dope scratch mixer really.

No but seriously, I was looking at a Allen & Heath Zedr16, firewire mixer w/ 16 preamps, 24 channels total. Is it work the 1700, or can a Mackie provide the same results and save me 500 bucks.

The A&H mixers available now are just namesake, they are no better and in some cases not as good as what else is out there.
The Mackie Onyx i-Series are what a lot of people should be looking at.
Don't get me wrong the A&H are not bad but they are far from that classic A&H sound.

im soured on the onyx series as when i had mine there was a huge problem with the firewire interface and it never got solved so i sold mine for half the price. A&H is more than a name also they make great mixers that are solid and sound great im not sure why your saying other wise here???? Either way I switched to a dm3200 and am happy with it so to each his own,

As for the initial problem of how to line up your track when recording...just set up your MPC so that it sends one bar of clicks before starting to play the sequence or song. That's in the window you can open on the "Count" field. By those tiny clicks you can later align everything in your software.

That's the reason they improved the FW in the i-Series.

The A&H units people are buying are just wearing the name they DON'T sound like the classic A&H that made the name nor are they built the same.
If you think so then you have never used any of the A&H stuff that made it's name.

Hey have you sync'd your MPC Midi via usb yet? and recorded it in a DAW such as cubase(only uses 1 asio driver/soundcard at a time)?

So I ordered an mackie 1640i today...but noticed it doesnt have a MIDI OUT port to HELP MASTER CLOCK all my devices in sync such as the MPC5000/KORG M3.

I thought it may pose a problem due to different frame speeds being clocked, i.e firewire being faster than USB(I called mackie tech support and they said the computer will sync the firewire and USB...?) When I use my Daw/Cubase as the host master clock for recording all 16 channels in Sync.

This is why they dropped the price doen by $200 probably, since this is cutting edge home recording technology they will need to include Midi thru Firewire..just like there interfaces...this is a design flaw in my opinion..

The Allen Heath Zed R16 DOES have a midi out port with midi control also....I may cancel my mackie order or send it back for the A&H.

i use this method - dead easy to do, works a charm.
instead of using the count in, i make a two bar sequence of snare hits and place that before each track.

you then have the option of tracking out your beat to the computer, or resampling each track and dragging to the computer via USB.
