Hi Guys,

I have an MPC1000 with jjos1 4.99 installed. What I'd like to know is, if I upgrade to jjos2 or jjos2xl I will lose some features from jjos1 i.e. auto chromatic.

I understand that you can switch between the os on start up, which would be a bit of a pain if you need to use a feature exclusive to different os. Also how does it cope/handle a save file that has been saved using a feature which is only on one of the os but has been loaded using the other os?

Cheers

In JJOS2 and JJOS2XL you don't need chromatic because you now have INST programs.. the INST program type does the auto-chromatic for you and then let's you tailor it for each sample in the program with regards to original note and note range! Also.. your pads are laid out as: A1=C1, A2=C#1, A3=D1, A4=D#1, A5=E1, A6=F1, A7=F#1, A8=G1, A9=G#1, A10=A1, etc so it fits in very nicely if you're controlling external synths and/or virtual synths :D

You can only switch between OS1 and OS2 on bootup. If you install OS2XL you can't switch between any other OS on startup.

Loading a Project from OS1 will need some tweaking to get things sounding somewhere near what they sounded like in OS1 in most cases. The filters and amp envelopes are different to OS1.

Take note: If you use the q-links a lot, you may find OS2 to be more of your liking because in OS2XL you can only use one instance of a q-link per track instead of per pad.

^ What was the reason for decreasing the amount of instances? it should be the other way around, it's XL! I always assumed XL = original content + more

He's added more, but had to f"$k up q-links for it. I think it was in order to get two filters back and something to do with getting the original simult pad behaviour back (from OS1) which was a biggie!... but I'm not too sure.. you'll have to do some forum searching for threads posted about it.
Anywayz.. there are tons of features added to OS2XL.. it's all depends on what features you deem as your own personal priority features. Install em both and found out for urself.

Ahhh ok that makes sense, thanks. I have OS 2XL but just waiting on the 128 RAM $10 wtf!) + 16GB CF to arrive then I'm gonna jump right into it :D ...oh yeah gotta get the pad upgrade still ahhh

Get a HD duuuude!
I haven't used a CF card for 2 years...
Plus... CF cards wear out the more you use them; a lot more so than HD's.
HD in mpc2500 (or 1000 in ur case (clue was in the 'pad upgrade')) is DA BOMB! naw sheet :D

Aw nuts. Is there a limit on the HD size like the RAM? if so, what's the highest you can upgrade to? I'm def gonna look into it, just gonna take be a bit since I still have to get a couple of things for the 1K, unless a HD is completely necessary from jump street like a RAM upgrade(man I can't do jack shiz with 16MB )

Thanks for the help Jimmie, tbh I don't really know what features I need or would use as I've only had an MPC for a couple of week now and I'm still finding my way around jjos1. So far I haven't used the q links once as yet (don't really know what to do with them yet lol)

Will prob go for jjos2 for now (Am I right in saying I would need to buy jjos2 in order to buy jjos2xl anyway) until I get a system of working on the MPC.

One last thing, with the addition of instrument tracks on jjos2 would there be a use for (or even would) blue box work?

cheers

Yeah, but you can also upgrade straight to OS 2XL from the free OS for $113. Either way, you'll be paying $113 to get to OS 2XL

Forget what I said about CF cards wearing out.. They do, but it takes a very, very large amount of use and isn't worth thinking about.

@mrpud I've never used bluebox. http://mpcmaid.sourceforge.net/ is a newer program. I've never actually used mpcmaid yet either.

@youknow I think there is a limit.. Can't remember what it is though. I have a 120Gig HD in my machine. The only pain with a HD is in doing backups to your computer; USB2 had already been out for 4 years before the 2500 was initially released in 2005, and... well.... I have no words that can describe enough how acutely thoughtless the design decision of Nu-Wakai was to use USB1. Numark in full effect brotherrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
