MPC2500 JJOS-XL VS MPC4000

I know these threads have been done to death and I hate for this to be my first post but I have some major questions in my mind. I really want to cop an MPC-4000 but now the 2500 with the newest JJOS-XL is blurring my vision slightly. I'm looking looking for the Pro's and Con's of each. I heard the rumor that JJ was on the team that made the 4000's OS so I wanna know if the JJOSXL on the 2500 has an advantage over the FLAGSHIP MPC.

Any takers...?

Note: In my area they're going for about the same price, but I really hate what NUKAI is doing to the MPC line (plastic parts etc.) thats why I want the 4000, plus the sampler section is sweeter (so I hear.)

Help me make up my mind please...?

MPC 4000: more powerful sampler and sequencer
MPC 2500: better sample editing tools and more streamlined functions

What about in the effects department?

Does the 2500 have a HDD?

The 2500 comes with the HDD installed and the same is true for some MPC 4000 models. You can swap out the drives in both models.

The effects are subjective. Both of them have ok effects...and plenty of them. I can't personally say one is better than the other.

no, it doesn't. even the SE only has the ram upgarde and dvd-r.

dunno, i realize dude already copped the 4k but incase anyone else is reading..........I own the 2500 and came from the 2xl and 4k.

I think the deciding factor should be what you plan on doing mostly. the 4k is good at loading sample libraries and keymapped stuff...........whereas i think the 2500 + jjos is better for chopping (the non destructive chop on it is killer and super fast) thats not to say the 4k is bad at chopping, but if you sampling vinyl and loops and chopping and rearranging mainly, then the 2500 jjos got what you need. plus the 2500 has some of my favorite effects and sample editing features - i think it has all the effects 4k has...plus it has stereo to mono sample convert with vocal cut........dilla style vocal cut (dont remember if thats on 4k).

4k kill 2500 for chromatic programs or keymapped multisample stuff. so if you sampling and making keygroups and mapping stuff out to be played on keys, 4k wins.

minus keymapping, the 2500 has overall better workflow.

in the end tho, i think either is a good choice.

Gratz on your choice. I recently had the same struggle. Coming from the 1k jj os. I did some self reflection, crying in the rain, sleeping on the mpc, and good ole forum searching to make my decision. I came to the conclusion that the jj os clearly had me spoiled in terms of "chopping" with chop shop. And this is me speaking for myself. I decided to get out of the "norm", and plus, I like a challenge, so I went with the 4k.

I like stretching out more of my musical skills, so I felt the 4k fit the script for that.

MPC 4000 is considered to be more powerful sampler and Sequencer than the MPC 2500.
Also MPC 2500 has a better editing tools .

But the 4k has ak.sys which allows you to use any off line editor such as soundforge or wavelab or whatever, which I think carries more weight than any mpc editor could.
